Does the 2008 need a TRE or does one even work on it?

There is a guy who gave me a bunch of free stuff for my 2005 and he just bought a 2008. I was going to build him a Smart TRE if he could use it.

yes it will de-restrict the bike and will display 5 on the gear indicator at all times

try the Switchable Smart TRE from TACHYON MOTORSPORTS u can enable and disable it with a switch while your riding

Is 186mph not fast enough for you?

I dont think I will ever see top speed, but never say never. For now I am ok with 186mph.

+1 - i've got to 171mph on the GPS and then I began to struggle to see clearly where I was going

Same here, but I did use a TRE with my '04 and the bike pulled harder in the first 3 gears. I remember when I first got it installed and pulled out of the parking lot the bike just felt like it wanted to go! That's all I wanted it for, because I never topped my '04 out and I will never top my '08 out.
