Even for long trips, ideally I would want something easily detachable so I could take them into the hotel at night as luggage instead of trying to unload what I need out of the bags. Think BMW hard bags.
My gut feel is something that may not look as good but has more use flexibilty would be more applicable for our market. My 2¢.
