Tire question

Took my rear wheel off the Busa and took it and the new tire to have it mounted and balanced. Picked it up the next day and drove home only to discover that they had mounted it backwards.

How big of a problem is this? Am I going to die if I ride it like this? I hate the idea that now I have to make them fix it and waste ever more time on a simple tire change.

It's a BT56, I think.

Vu did the same thing to mine, but caught his mistake after he just bolted the axel nut on. He pulled it off and put it on right.

I "think" its only for in the wet, rain grooves. But I'm not really positive...

it not that big a deal..... at leat for me.. i have a 56 on rite now that,s fit,d backward... i find it ok.... as far as i know.. charles is rite it for the rain......

Lou I called a buddy of mine about this...he's the manager for the tire department here in SJ at Road Rider....the tire is not going to come apart and kill ya, but it won't perform right in any thing but clean dry pavement.

I would take the bike back and make them R+R the wheel and remount the tire.

It's their mistake they need to make it right

I had the same problem and didnt notice until my first ride, i ran into another board member. cruisin down the road and see this Busa stopped so i turn around to see if he's ok, just takin pictures. so we chat for a minute. the first thing he notices is the run direction. winter set in so i took it back up 2 weeks ago and they changed it in about 10 minutes. i figured it probably wont matter unless i ride in water but it's the fact that I know it aint right. better safe than sorry. glad i'm not the only one.

Kind of off-topic, but did you notice the orientation of the grooves are different between front and rear tires, at least on Pilot Powers. The rear looks "normal" where the V formed by the groove points in the direction of forward roll. But it's the opposite on the front.

I'm going to have it re-done first chance I get. The think about the water was more than enough info to convince me.

Your motorcycle tire has a directional tread. Not only that but the plys are directional as well. In short running the tire in a reversed direction for a prolonged period of time will definitly cause the tire to overheat thus delaminating the plys on the tire. I have seen tires delaminate on cars before I would hate to even think what it would be like on a bike.

Remember there is rhyme and reason for everything especialy a performance motorcycle tire. Also keep in mind the contact patch for your rear tire is about the size of 4 us postal stamps..

tires are popped out of a mold. They are molded a certain way. Hence thaty little arrow.

o well, lesson for all. Keep yer eye on that 17 year old slappin' yer new skins on.

That's generally true but, ironically, this one was installed by the service manager. I called him back and he's going to fix it as soon as I can it down to him.

I've seen them fly apart on a vette,then again Ive seen them do okay being run backwards,but as RSD said,the arrow is there for a reason,the tire engineers are smarter than me,I'll trust em on that one.NJ.

Ba Busa's buddy is right on this not only that but the tire will wear twice as fast if it is not going the direction it is suppose to. So WAG ya better get a move on it before you have no tire left to fix.
