The Superbyke's Custom GSXR 1000 Tail Section Conversion

There is a few other set-ups for this conversion that are very nice. That being said there are a few things I am not a fan of on the other kits. One thing was the amount of room from the tail hump to the gas tank, the other is the European pitch to the moon on the tail section, also the fact it doesn't have the ability to use a stock seat and of course the almost $1000 price tag I have seen on them. My plan is to shorten up that seat area to something closer to the stock busa seating area, I already have the pitch/angle figured out and I am working on making it to be able to retain the stock seat with little modification. All this for what I am hoping will be half of the price tag. That being said nothing is set in stone until I finish trying to figure everything out. There is a lot to figure out, battery tray, seat lock, passenger pegs, ecu location, and making all of the starting and main relays all fitting. This kit may require modification for end users, it WILL NOT be a direct just bolt it up and go ride, but I will make it as close to that as possible. GEN2??? Same mainframe if I am not mistaken and the sub frames may even be the same. Until I have a Gen2 in my hands and can tests fit it, it will be listed as a Gen 1 part. However there isn't any reason anyone couldn't make it work with a Gen2. Thanks, Scott

Ok!! Thanks for all the info. Will keep an i eye on this thread!

One fabulous thing about Scott's style....he treats all the work he does as though it's for his own bike. I've discussed this with him and my Superbyke is a living example of his excellence.

He's a keeper! Rare and genuine in a mechanic/fabricator.

Ok so I didn't make it into the shop until around 2:30 I have been running around doing all of those last minute Christmas to do's to make the little one's Christmas the best it can be.

At any rate here is my progress today, some positives and a few negative's or re-do's.........but hey that's prototyping if this stuff was easy everyone would do it.

I cut a soft jaw to hold what I cut up to this point so I could machine the back side.

Backside is machined and finished, for now.

Three things in this picture from top to bottom, top is the nipple on the fairing that needs to go into the subframe, middle is the stock subframe with the hole and rubber grommet for the nipple, bottom is my part with the rubber grommet.

Cut this off of the 1000 battery tray as I am trying really hard to make this fit and work with this kit.

Here you can see my part and the bolt hole for the battery tray, it's about and inch and a half from fitting. Wasn't something I really looked at hard until I was deep in the project. Basically I need to extend my brackets 1 1/2 and I think I can make the stock GSXR1000 tray hold the busa battery and ECU.

And here I am seeing what I can do to make the stock seat work with all of this.

Everything is a close and a maybe............so far I am please with the results and I think it's going to be a pretty nice little get up once done.

I really enjoy your threads and your talent is awesome. Somebody needs to drop off a GenII at your place for the winter. Thanks for sharing!

With all that has been going on with Christmas this afternoon I was finally able to get back out to the shop.

I cut a new piece and afterwards feel like I took one step forward and two backwards.

So here is the new longer piece

New piece worked great to get the battery tray in and to fit.

I cut the stock tail section a bit for better fitment and ease of everything going together.

Was able to get the tail section to fit in the rubber grommet

Here's the look, it's pitched up slightly higher than I would like. I may rotate it down a bit.
IMG_20131227_160654_629_zps4cd18441.jpg

And here's one with a stock seat on it, with the extra length I added in to make the battery tray fit I am now slightly longer than I want it for the seat.

I am going to have to reconsider a few things, I want to make the stock seat work if I can and I want the battery tray to work with all of the stock relays , ECU and battery. All of this affects one another so I feel like I went slightly backwards. We will see what tomorrow or Monday brings.

Perseverance will pay off in the long run

I know there is gonna be a waiting list of orgsters lined up 2 get their hands on this kit when your finished

Forget the evolution of the Superbyke, turbo, Brembo's , etc.....just know that the gixxer 1000 tail, in person, transforms the profile, with or without fairing, into a sleek and modern superbike. Don't get me wrong, anyone who knows me knows how long I held out with the Busa hump profile....I love it, I finally broke down and did this (via Scott) because 1) it is and looks much lighter 2)the OEM rear lighting system (especially with aftermarket lenses and LED) is TWICE the brightness of the aftermarket taillights of at least three brands I'm familiar with. 3)the OEM rear turnsignal lights deserve their own mention compared to aftermarket tails(brightness and being conspicious). (4 The license plate mounts much tighter and is more asthetically pleasing on a gixxer undertail (IMHO). 5) For my application, if I go to double downpipes on the turbo (instead of exhaust and muffler), I now can NOT have buddy peg mounts on EITHER side of the bike (left lic plate and right exhaust mount) since it's not a motorcycle for two people...ever. 6) It's just a cool, new and rocketboy profile that makes a lot of folks look twice and that's fun at bike night (I never used to be that way but I admit it, I'm a superficial, look at me guy on my turbo). 7) CHANGE IS FUN! It's like getting a new bike without having to say goodbye to the one you already have and love! OK, that's some of my deep thoughts (I told you I'm superficial!). Doyle

I'm a big fan of the 1k tail, can't see the pics right now, but i'll check them out on another computer tomorrow.

i had a similar issue when i did tail conversion with the 06-07 gsxr 750 tail was to long for my taste now its short but slightly pitched up to much for my taste especially after putting 1000 swing arm on it lol with stretch the long tail looked good
