Starter free spin 2001

hey everyone... my starter went out and I am looking at doing the 03 conversion anyone have any experience with this? My motor was rebuilt and its now at 14/1 compression. I found this site and it looks compete but its about 500 cheaper than the dealer so was a little worried.

I do them all the time... what is $500 cheaper than the dealer? there are a good bit of parts needed and it's not cheap..

if I purchase the parts from the link provided and a starter/ starter cover from ebay looks like a total of 600.00 the dealer quoted me 1050.00 for the same parts. I was curious if anyone had purchased from this cheap cycles company an if their parts where in-fact OEM. Also for anyone who did it advice or is there anything else that is not on the list that is needed. I know to get all 2003 parts except the actual starter motor which should be original 01 according to what I have read on previous threads

that is the reson you think it's cheaper you have to have the newer starter motor as it has a longer shaft to cover the top spline gear also..I have complete kits in stock from motors/bikes I have parted if you want to be sure and get all the right stuff..

How much would it be? and now I am confused because EVERYTHING i have read says use 2003 starter components except the starter motor because the shaft is too long???

you need starter,2 covers,2 gaskets,few of the pins,gears plugs and all unless your gonna use your plugs and orings..

Gen2 parts work also I just put it on my 01

biggest thing is make sure you get the 03+ top cover that bulges out, and the different starter gear in that cover..and the newer starter motor 03+.. or I have a schnitz racing hardened gear that fits your stock cover with a little machining
