hi everyone, it has been a while i have been here hope eveyone had a great holidays!
i sold my 08 busa last thursday for 6300.00 dollars it has 16000 miles on it, i just got tired of riding it. a younger guy bought it from me. my bike was in perfect shape, no problem with it, had new sprockets and brake pads chain filter etc..etc..
the guy came by and look at it and in 5 minutes he said lets do the deal, he rode it home thursday nite and did not hear from him till saturday nite. he called me and tells me that this bike is leaking oil and asked him where from and he said from the kick stand area and he noticed oil on his shoes!!! i told him that is very strange and my bike never leaked oil before and the day he took it he did not see any oil leak!
yesterday with a friend who suppose to know alot about bikes took the faring out and notice oil all over the engine but he does not tell me where. he said one of the bolts to after market exhaust( header) missing!!
he keeps telling me that i Fu@@ed me up on the deal!!
i told him that i have this bike for almost 3 years and 16k miles on it and never had problems with it and the day he bought it he checked it and there were no oil leaks and drove home and no oil leak till 2 days later!!
i have no clue if he abused the bike or what but i am 100% sure this bike was in perfect shape.
i know the deal is done and he bought the bike as is but i am not the type to sell bike to someone with problems so it kind a wonders me what happened to this bike!
he seem to be younger imature guy. i know if you wheelie too high some of the oil can got through air filter and run through the drain hose by kick stand.

anyway i like to ask your thoughts about the subject!

If it didnt leak for the 16k miles you put on it...he prolly dogged it or is havin buyers remorse and trying to pull one on you.

Tell him to pull the air box off and see if any oil is in there.

Next he will tell you he got a bike with bad fork seals...........

Be present if you can when he calls and makes these accusations. If you dont know much about bikes, bring someone with you who does.Good luck.

Ask the buyer if he knows what "Caveat emptor" means.

I doubt anyone would post this thread if they were not a very honest and conscientious seller. Hold your ground. The buyer F%&%#ed his own deal--not you. The last thing you want to do is let this guy take back some of the money he paid or worse--give you back a bike that he broke while walks off with a refund.

You gave him a great price for that bike. The kid already got a good deal. He thinks he can take advantage of you. Trouble with selling a busa is there are some dirtballs out there who want that bike.

Ask the buyer if he knows what "Caveat emptor" means.

exactly, i keep that in mind!

oil leak it something is noticable, the smell of it in my garage, the leak.. and while he was looking at the bike the day he came to buy i asked him to look at it very closely and i showed him all area inside the engine by header and valve cover, oil filter, oil pan and inside fairing how clean it is and never been washed or ride in the rain, he then said oh yeah that thing is so clean!!

wash your hands of it.... selling him the bike did not come with customer service agreement, and your not warranty service repair either...

private sale, doesnt matter if it blows up as soon as he drives it out of the drive way... not your problem...

Helping him in any real way is opening a big ugly door....

DONT DO IT

you know i really enjoy this bike for almost 3 years and 16k miles with not a single issue except maintenance, the battery still original! it was a awesome bike and then you sell it to this young dude which has no driver license at the day of transaction when i asked him for his id copy!! he said he lost it a week ago and he has not repalce it it yet! and he is driving and riding!! i guess that tell me something! the day he bought it it took off with it like he stole it.. i bet you that new years day was a beautiful day here in houston and he rode the sh@@ out of that bike showing off!! and.. then whoops..why is this leaking oil!!??

If it were me, I'd have him bring the bike back and I'd take the fairings off, clean the engine spotless with suzuki wash, then figure out where the oil is coming from. Then make a decision if I had any responsibility in repairs. May be something very simple to repair.

I believe in treating people right. That bike shouldn't be puking oil no matter how hard he rode it. First things first, figure out what the problem is. Simple and easy to do! The buyer may have a legitimate beef?

Yeah, umm what everyone else said.

There is 'extra' maintenance involved with wheelies, pinging the rev limiter constantly to annoy... err I mean impress the people at the local hangout spots, and doing burnouts at every stop light / sign.

Not your bike, not your problem. Give him the number to the local suzuki dealership and tell him they will help him.

If you do decide to look at the bike (which if he was calling and accusing me of knowingly screwing him, I wouldn't) and try to help him out. Make sure he understands you're doing it because you are a nice guy, not because you feel bad for selling him a broken motorcycle, or feel like it may be your fault.

Gaskets go bad... It is possible, although rare for one to be defective... or just old, or both and I'm sure that poor little gasket held together as long as it could while the bike was pegged at 11k rpms for a full minute.

I had one go out suddenly on my soft tail, not long after I bought it. Leaked oil all over me. After I had put about 1k miles on it... ya know what I did? I paid 10 bucks for a set of new ones, and took a day replacing the one that was bad. I didn't run back to the dealership crying about it.

Is it possible that the oil leak was there before it left your driveway? You betcha. What could the kid have done to cause the leak, crash? Nope. Find out what the leak is from, get an estimate, and help the kid with it. What could it cost? A few hundred dollars? He'll be happy and not come back for revenge. Now that might be ugly.

TELL HIM "SOLD AS SEEN" LOL

Sounds like he's trying to get a discount.. guess he found something cheaper and is now trying it on...

Facts are the bike was sold in perfect condition.... you had it serviced. Things dont "just go wrong" in two days.

Could not agree less! This would be an admission of liability. There is always a risk involved with buying a used vehicle and, even if this bloke is telling the truth and there really was a leak before he bought the bike it is his problem now.

The seller is not legally or morally responsible for a fault that was not evident at the time of sale.
