What's up fella's. I just registered a few weeks ago, but I have always visited this site for all kinds of info.
MY 99 busa was purchased in 2003 with only 4000 miles on it, and it purred like a kitten back then. Well now I have 10,000 miles on it and it runs like CRAP. I just wanted to bounce this off of you guys before I took it to the stealership for maintenance.
so far, I have installed new plugs and K&N air filter at about 9,000 miles and of course all the regular oil changes. This is what going on with it:
-It takes 3-5 seconds of engine cranking before it turns on (this is without giving it gas or choke).
-After idling for a minute or more, usually on the side stand, the engine will die out.
-After the bike is warm, and I hit the throttle hard, it will give me a quick bogging down which causes me to lurch forward, and a split second later the bike will continue to accelerate at it's usual power.
-When I'm coasting to a stop light or sign, I can hear some light popping from the cans. I'm not sure if the popping started prior to the new K&N filter or after it was installed.
-Just starting out in first gear is very hesitant, but once it reaches 3 or 4 RPM's, it runs fine, except when I romp on the throttle and I get that hesitation/bogging down.
I use premium gasoline everytime. I was told I probably don't need it re-mapped, because the chip isn't like a mechanical part which needs readjusting or recalibration.
Any suggestions or advice will be appreciated. RIDE ON!!!

Sounds like a fuel restriction problem..You need to take it to a good tech and have him check it out for ya.

I would try replacing the fuel filter, followed by some injector cleaner. Then I would consider taking it to a tech.

Did you make sure all the vaccum lines are hooked back up? Check that and check your plugs. Mine fouled up quick after a line was left off. Good luck.

Don't forget to check the flux capacitor. You might be lacking a few jigowatts in the lower rpm's.

Yeah, I kind of figured I would have to take it to a mech. But I am sure I didn't touch any vaccum lines, but it's worth checking to see if they're secure. I'm sure it is in need of a new fuel filter also.
I was just reading a thread about fuel filters on this site, so that's what I'm going to get prior to taking it to a mech. Other guys I ride with agree that it is a fuel restriction problem. I think I'll also try and clean the fuel screens for the inectors, unless that's a bad idea to mess with it.
As for injector cleaner, I wasn't sure if that stuff really werks, but I guess I'll give it a try since it is probably the cheapest. Has the cleaner made a difference for anyone else?
As for the flux capacitor, I know your messing with me, because EVERYONE knows that they weren't installed until the 01's came out, and even then they had a SNM jigowatt distributer that ran in sequence with the air/fuel ratio.
I really didn't want to take it in, but I think I have no other option I guess. Is there anything I should tell them to do/not do specifically.
