I use my rear brake for trail braking coming to an apex and sometimes for holding at lights. I understand 75-80% of stopping power is fronts. Something has changed. My rear brake isn't harding applying the force and I barely notice any stopping power at all. One day it worked well the next day it didin't. Pads were changed recently. Fluid in reservoir. I bled front side piston but not the backside maybe there's something there? Any suggestions before I start tearing this apart? This is an all of a sudden thing Wardie

I'm guessing that you did the brake work? Could be a locked piston. Did you lube the pivot point on the brake pedal? I know that when I bought my used '06 the brakes didn't feel right, seemed to be binding. Pulled it apart, cleaned and lubed it, now it's like butter!

If They're brand new pads they might need a few miles.

when i changed my fluid out on the rear brakes there was air in the system. im guessing it was there form the factory because it was the first time they had been touched and i bought the bike new. i did notice a difference in the brake but i also changed the pads. :beerchug: i would bleed them again and do both bleeder screws. i did both screws twice, it waste fluid but i wanted to be sure there was no air in the system.

The pads were changed months ago. The rear worked fine the last time I rode the bike then I got on it and they didn't work? Thanks for the posts I'll go through it and post what I find. Wardie

Yup sounds like you might have some air trapped in the system. Bleed the system and things should get better. One other thing you might check is the rear master cylinder is adjusted properly. It is behind the Right Front footrest. If the bolts have moved it could affect how the brakes are engaging.

I had the same problem just recently, Back Brakes just didnt want to hold, Felt like they needed bleeding, I bled the crap out of them with no change, Finally went and bought a new set of GOOD brake pads, Left a nice little black mark in the driveway while testing them.

You might want to check those pads, and maybe upgrade.

Take the caliper off and bleed the backside as well. Hold the caliper at such an angle as to have the bleed nipple above the line. I'm betting you have air in the lines.

cheers

Hey, Wardie...good luck. That's a strange set of circumstances you've got there.

Look forward to hearing you got it resolved. :beerchug:

They are Ferrodo pads. I don't have a mity vac so I can't bleed the calipers with them off. I'll pull pads and sand them and also bleed them. Then follow up with everybody. Thanks for the feedback from all of you! Wardie

That's what I need to do, clean my rear piston. You can feel it in my foot brake and I think it's the junk on the piston.

One question in your scenario...did you re fill using OEM brake fluid? I replace mine with SS braided lines and went with a higher boiling point racing silicone fluid.

Reason I ask is, you can't mix some types of fluids, it'll make them feel funny and malfunction when you need them most. Just something to think about.

Silly question: You don't have the Buell peg mod do you? If so make sure you did not create a binding point where the threaded bolt nears the rear of the brake lever.

no Buell ped mod. Per Mr. Bogus I think I scuff up the pads first. Wardie
