Pondering the Hayabusa, but still slightly on the edge

I commute 25 miles each way to work and the Busa is a dream for the ride. Most of it is highway and I would never think of a smaller bike to commute with. My legs would hate me for it. You never have to changes gears since it has plenty of power/torque.

I am 5'11'' at 195. My bike is lowered and I actually like how it sits and feels like as it is. As far as performance, I am no proffesional knee dragger but to me the bike handles great at it's current ride height. Don't let the weight of this bike fool you. It might be heavier but it can be flicked into corners fairly easy once you adjust to the weight/size/power.

I started out riding like you have but it was on a 250 Hyosung GTR.. My dream bike was the Hayabusa. I had a 05 CBR 600rr then I had a kawi 06 636 that I traded to a kid who never rode before for my now aquired 07 hayabusa. The Hayabusa is a machine like no other the weight of the bike is what you have to get used to. I had my first drop of the bike in my own garage trying to get it on a rear stand. I wasnt used to the weight and bang its on its right side . I found a used fairring on ebay for 100 bux repainted it and poped it on and was out $200 bux. Some of the points that were mentioned regarding matenance expences, since this is a mass produced bike parts are always plentiful. I use my bike for commuting, a ride in the twisties, a cruise with my girl and MC club. Very comfertable to ride in all situations the power on the bike is easy to handle but not forgiving if you make a mistake. If you ride within your limits the bike will respond to that and respect that, if you dont respect the bike trust it will kick you off like a wild horse. Ive been riding for a year and dont have anything bad about the bike to say. If you can do some matinance yourself and pick up a repair guide that will save you money in the long run. I would try to find one for the best price possible under $10k thats in sound condition but in all have fun and enjoy!!

I just picked up an 06 for right at $6000. There are a bunch of deals out there. I know there was one down in SC a week or so ago that was cheaper and with less than 5k miles. I don't live too far from you and I was burning up CL. So I know the market pretty well right now. If you want a new one, that is something different. I like for someone else to take the hit. No one mentioned the fact that you said you were going to leave it in C mode, so since I will agree with everyone here on everything else you pointed out, i will say this. There is nothing wrong with leaving the bike in C mode. You will not be wasting the potential of the bike by doing this. The modes were set there so that you can change how the bike reacts in different situations, rain, track, and everyday riding. (correct me if I am wrong guys but this is how it was explained to me).

If you are worried about the milage you will find that most people here average around 46 mpg providing they do not have to many modifications done to it that would hamper it. My 08 is stock right now and through town I average 46 but if I am touring I push it to a little over 50. Which is amazing due to the power that this bike has.

As for you think your weight would be a factor in moving this bike, it isnt. It sounds like you still need to take the riders course because the only thing I have found weight to factor into is how fast you can get down the 1/4 mile . My brother is 5'5" and he sat on my bike and was just short of being flat footed. now going over a curb for a driveway.....That made me cringe because he couldnt reach the ground . He only weighs maybe 145 and he made me rethink my riding abilities with the way he flipped the big buss around.

The busa is an excellent bike and one that I will never regret, insurance is good, mod choices are excellent and this great community of people here to help you with your endeavours along the way.

that price isn't too bad and it all depends on location so i would say mid 9k. see if you can haggle a bit. the advantage of a gen2 in your circumstances is the selector mode. like others have mentioned, there is no shame riding in "C" mode to get accustomed to the bike and it's power gradually. good luck and post pic's if you grab one.

the busa is an expensave mechine $ to buy, to maintain, and to fix. just a small kickstand drop can set you back $2k.in dammage.

Just curious, out the crate my Busa was several thousand cheaper than the 600, 750, and 1000cc sport bikes at the dealership.

??? really? that surprises me. i know the Hayabusa's resale is higher than most. they seem to hold thier value a bit better than the smaller bikes.

i had a minor drop (a bull pushed over my bike), and the cost of parts almost gave me a heart attack. over $2k, i could buy an f4i off cl for that and it was minor boo boos.

if you like being the fastest thing on the road, and crave power, get a busa.

I've got to say, as others have, a bit of a step up from a Ninja 500 to a Hayabusa. But every rider and their maturity is different and I don't know you. The only advice I can give; if you choose the Busa as a next step, is to treat it with the respect it is due; it is a fantastic bike but it can bite if you let it.

The busa is good at everything it does and goes far beyond in most other aspects.
Been riding busa's for 5 years now and plenty of other types of bikes and no other bike will make u feel like the busa does.
Every time you ride it there will be something different on offer and you will be grinning from ear to ear in your helmet before you even get on the (THING)
Just ride with respect and the bike will respect you..otherwise it can send u into the future faster than you can say farkkk me.

I love the busa. I stepped up from a GS 500 to the busa and it has been a blast.I did take the MSF basic riders course before I owned my first bike. I started out on a wildfire 200cc duelsport and rode the piss out of it for a year and a half before getting the GS (witch is a blast as well..) with the busa, respect and maturity are key. super fun to ride. welcome and hope you get something you are comfortable with and enjoy!!

The GSXR750 and Busa are two different animals. Think of the Busa as a hypersport touring bike and the 750 as more of a track oriented machine. The Busa is the Cadillac of sportbikes.
