I just seen/heard a motorcyclist do this, and see/hear it a LOT. I'm going to try and demonstrate in words. At stop leave wind out 1st gear (cause your going to go fast) then vroom, vroom rev before 2nd gear shift, then wind out 2nd gear then vroom rev before shift and so on through *all* the gears even sometimes 3 or 4 vroom revs between shifts. And you also do this on every downshift gear. On the other spectrum, riding normal not even showing how fast you are but you still have to vroom, vroom, vroom *every* up or down shift. I kindly ask if someone could help me understand this? My personal *opinion* is you are trying to say " Hey everyone look at me". Or is my opinion 100% wrong. From the film Dirty Harry " I's gots to know".

I would say you hit the nail on the head.....it's a "look at me" thing.....

Just like a modern HD rider blips their throttle when stopped at a light or stop sign.....I once reminded a friend on an HD that it was fuel injected so the days of needing to rev it a little to keep it running are over....

Also in many cases someone is doing this when they have an aftermarket exhaust so they can hear it.....

When riding casually I’ll blip the throttle on downshifts but I’ve never done it upshifting. I drove a 37 Chevy pickup that I had to match the revs when shifting up or down but I wasn’t really blipping the throttle. I see Harley riders revving just to hear their pipes. I see sport bike riders revving against the limiter…why I have no idea. Sounds ridiculous and can’t be good for the motor. Blipping on upshifts makes no sense at all.

With a V-twin Ducati, I saw some guys blipping the throttle right before taking off. The reason, I reconed, is to spin the flywheel and create momentum so when the clutch is engaged, it doesn't bog down. The big bore Ducatis don't like to be lugged. I adopted this technique and use it at times with my V2 Panigale. It does smooth the take-offs.

they're squids. Once in a great while, I'll do a rev bomb if someone requests it. Sometimes I'll accidentally get back on the throttle before fully releasing the clutch lever. I see no reason to rev before an upshift. That would actually seem possible to cause rougher shifts if the next gear is engaged at a higher rpm than the engine was previously running at under load. I always do a blip before a downshift, even a tiny one at low speed as I'm rolling to a stop. Other than that, people are trying to show off or maybe they just think the extra noise is fun. I'm glad not too many people ride like this because it's a little embarrassing to see.

I could understand just bumping the rev limiter in every gear, especially 6th. That might be cool...

Oops, let me clarify, bumping the rev limiter before upshift with clutch disengaged, *not* dead rev to limiter every shift..

I think it would be cooler to hit the rev limiter before every upshift. ...in the right environment. As far as I know, the bike won't hit the rev limiter in 6th gear before hitting the top speed limiter, maybe not even in fifth gear. My Gen2 ZX-14 did 180 with a +4T rear sprocket and still had 500 rpm to go. I think with a little finesse and more road, it could have hit 188.

Every motor stops making power at a certain rpm. And that’s usually below the redline shown on our tachs. What reason is there to exceed that rpm (the highest power output)?

To be cool like all the guys who vroom vroom every shift and like to rev bomb at every stop...
