Hi all. Has any one used a plastic welder to repair a cracked cowling? Which type of plastic rod to use? Any tips? Thanks.

I've plastic welded up a bunch of fairings. If it's just a crack. you don't need to add additional plastic.

I have repaired several pieces with a plastic welder the best luck I have had for filler material is to find a broken panel made of the same material and cut pieces from it. None of the filler rods that came with the welder seem to do a very good job. After welding I also use the flexable putty to finish it off.

Thanks all will try welding but new panels don't cost much if it doesn't go well

If you are careful you can use a soldering gun to melt the pieces together from the rear.
Then use fiberglass over the area on the back for strength.
I don't have a plastic welder, and this works pretty good for me.

There is a new universal weld rod that comes in a ribbon form. It works on all plastics so you don't have to try and match up the material

good luck
