non starting/ starter problems??

When trying to start the engine from cold the starter motor spins, but doesnt engage into the engine ??? just spins? sometimes, putting it into gear, rocking it disengages something or something?, and then it will start. Once warm it seems to start most of the time. Although the problem does seem to be getting worse.
Ive just changed the starter motor hoping this would solve it, but has made no differance!
Any ideas anyone? somebody said it could be the sprag clutch?? what is this, what does it do, and could they be right?? oh and how much will one be???

Oh and i dont know the year of the engine, but the code on the ecu is - 32920 - 24F00

Sounds like the clutch in the starter gear is bad/slipping.I think they have slipper clutches in there to turn one way and not the other.Pull the starter cover off and take a look.

Upgrade to 03 up starter setup.. your starter clutch is warning you..
