I'm looking at possibly buying a track bike, and I've found a 1999 Yamaha R6 for around $1500 that already race ready.

The guys said the chain broke and there is a hole in the transmission case. I'm not too familiar with R6's so I'm not sure if it's through the engine case, or just the rear sprocket access cover. I'm waiting on clarification and pics.

What would be the price of the repair parts?

1. Side cover if that's all it is?

2. 520 Chain...good one? (I think it's a 520)

Here's the info he provided on the other forum:

Chain broke and put a hole in transmission case. Frame and swingarm are both dented, but apparently straight. This was my track bike for 2 years. Subframe slightly bent but usable. Left control scraped. Previously had a salvage title, when I bought it the dmv gave me a clear title, I don't know why, they just did.

-Penske triple (for 190 lb rider)
-Traxxion forks (for 190lb rider)
-Frame sliders
-Woodcraft clipons
-Woodcraft rearsets, std shift (1 spare with cracked heel guard)
-Hindle high pipe
-New D208s with 4 sessions on them, rear got oil on left side
-Race bodywork, repaired, ok condition
-2 tanks, one mint with vortex cap, one dented with stock cap
-2 rear sprockets
-Stock shock

If you're interested, email an offer. I'm too lazy to part it out or fix it, I just want to get rid of it.[/QUOTE]

Thanks in advance for your help

Here's the pic he sent. It has since been painted Viper GTS Blue. He's supposed to be getting new pics for me this week.

Bitten real hard by the track bug, eh stkr?

I'm a lil doubtful about that dented swingarm....and I'm not all that comfortable with that hoel in trans case. It could just be the case like the Busa....but I can't be certain.

Let me see what I can dig up...

Dam PAC...that's some response time

Here's some more info I dug up on the R6 forum. They have Service Manuals posted as stickies also.

There are two covers that could likely be damged, or it's the engine case:

1. Drive Sprocket Cover, Page 4-1

2. Shift Shaft Cover, Page 4-40

3. Chain - stock: 532ZLV KAI (DID), 116 links

Thanks again

crap...I can't find anything...

Based on a guesstimate, I'm thinkin of the following in regards to prices:

chain: $100
shift shaft cover: $120
sprocket cover: $60 - $80

Then again, there's probably tons of parts on Ebay...just a suggestion though.

Thanks PAC

I called the local dealership and found out that if it is "just" the covers that are damaged, then I can get all three left side covers for around $160 worst case.

If it is in fact the engine case, then that's about $1100 without any internals.

That would definitely end the bike sale right there.

Once I can look at the bike in person, and do a full inspection, I'll know exactly what I'll need to get it on the track again. Until then, it's just a crap shoot.
