Need a new battery, what's the difference between a 12 vs 14?

I have a "Fast by Gast" Hayabusa battery- it was designed for the Busa, is a dry cell battery, and has 380 cold cranking amps. I also use a custom 800 watt stator. I use these upgrades as I have a higher than average number of electronics hooked up to my bike. If anyone is interested in the battery or stator, the battery can be found on Google, and the stator is a custom item from Electrosport.

I'm 90% sure I'm running a 14 on my Gen I, but I had to remove the foam pad block from under the seat to get it to fit.

Also, save a few bucks and pick up a sealed AGM (probably Yuasa) from your local Walmart, I posted a thread about my experience with this a few days back here. :cheerleader:

Exide makes a battery also that will work just fine for the Busa...
It's the "Super Crank Select" part # 12BS---- it is just a liitle taller than the OEM battery but still works fine--- replaced mine with this one and have had no issues...around $50 cheaper than OEM replacements I have seen too:beerchug:

wow talk about rezing the dead....lol who pulling these old threads up lol

You wont find nor buy a Yuasa battery from walmart,,,online or dealer only,,,,But I bought a walmrt battery for the Mrs v-twin there tho,,and you can find a knock off after market battery for the busa,,,I too looked for one,,but as coop stated above,,most are a hint taller and the seat will hit,,it about 3/4-1 inch taller and it bottoms out the foam on the seat,,and you really gotta push down hard on the seat to get the bolts started,,I bought and returned on [same day]didnt even hook up the terminals,,,,sounded like a train wreck waiting to happen,,,I called the dealer and he said alot of after markets were like that ,,and offered me the factory yuasa for 20 bucks cheaper than what they sold them for,,paid about 80 bucks....One thing that bothered me was I knew My weight was gonna be pushing down on that battery too,,,I just didnt like the thought of it,,,but to each his own,,plus I weigh 200,,,,,Another thing I would like to share with the org memebers is,,when choosing a battery,,the weight of the battery means alot[ mod batterys are different] factory replacements is what im talking about only,,,,,,,,,the more lead in the battery the better it is and the longer the life expectancy,,,,The factory Yuasa weighs{ memmory] is 9,2 pounds,,,when your on line and your looking for replacements,,they always have the batterys weight,,,You will find,,the cheaper the battery,,the lighter it is,,,Ive seen them at 8,4lb 7.1lb ect,or call your dealer to confirm,,even the battery marts are good and ive had good luck with their batteries even walmart batteries,,,and of course ,,if you get a new one that you have to fill and charge [ my personal choice] like the Yuasa,,,slow,,very slow chrage= long life battery..

I may have to differ with you on the Walmart thing, I bought the following battery from Walmart for $50 last Saturday.

hey D
Looks like yuasa is selling ghost batteries under the name of everstart...MY Bad....I didnt know everstart was affiliated withYuasa,,,,,nice deal,,,,the acid pak tattle taled ,,,,,,,,LOL

You need more cranking amps if you have done any kind of engine modifications for performance, especially bigger bores. Also includes turbos with heavier valve springs and or cams. The 14 series helps this, but you still may need an extra battery boost for those big puppys @ 1500

I recalled incorrectly, my tall Walmart battery in the Busa is a 12 not a 14. Works just fine though.

By reading the fine print,,It appears that the batter is produced by Johnson controlled battery group ,out of milwaukee,,,,,And the juice [acid] was Subbed in by yuasa.
And if the battery weight ,is less than 9.2 lb,,,chances are doubled its not a yuasa,,only the acid, Alot of groceriy store do this with their brand name canned foods,,,,sometimes a store brand name is actually a brand name food with the store label on it,,
