My rant...

Well here is my stupid moment.

Boss finally decides to look at a promotion. Well there are these level tests they make people take.

So the boss walks in says Joseph im gonna give you this test... and go.


So on goes the test 73 questions long have to make an 85 to get the promotion.(These are all advanced Linux/AP - Internal provisioning system/Server 2003/Server 2008 problems)

Anyways.. I made a freakin 83.33, sure I wasnt 100% sure on some and just flat didnt have a clue on a couple others. The thing that gets me the worst is well you see what you got wrong. never the correct answer just what you got wrong.

Lets just say that me in my infinite wisdom decided to write the correct answer to the WRONG question not once but TWICE!!!!!! Its like my brain said put the answer to question 25 with question 26 and visa versa. They werent even related so its like DUH!!!!

The real sad part is my boss watched me do it, told me he was confused why I answered those 2 crossed with each other like that.

hey at least you have something you can target for your promotion... mine has been screwed up the last 2 yrs due to no fault of my own and for things that I probably should have left the company as a result of but... ya know being comfy where I am and all that jazz.

Look at it this way, at least your test doesn't hold some type of demotion or reduction as a result of not hitting 85% (gotta be something positive right? )

At least they have something objective to base it on. Promotions where I work are a popularity contest. I don't stand a chance of getting any higher than I am since I do what's right, not what's popular.

Sorry to hear that man. Where I work, typically you get a raise because of seniority, not your qualifications. I worked with an idiot once that got a promotion after insubordinant behavior, and arguing and threatening his supervisor! ???

+1 I'm in the same boat. I've been told by my boss that there's no chance for advancement if I stay where I'm at. So, my choices are to take an entirely different position in my company or switch employers (and either may happen so I can relocate...)

Look at the bright side. In my job, if I were to promote I would have to start over with seniority. I would lose the days off I have and my choice of vacation days. It's a punishment to get promoted! ???
