For financial reasons, I've been off 2 wheels for the past 5 years. While the economy is still tanking, I've found at least a temporary reprieve, and plan to get back in the saddle.

However a lot of my gear has not been well kept, or even purchased to begin with, (I've never had riding boots, preferring street shoes), and my helmet, well, it isn't there. ??? Twas in the garage in '10, but isn't now. Though at this point, and with the mice trouble we've had in the garage, probably better to get a new one, anyway.

So I'm looking for suggestions for a helmet, gloves, and riding boots.

I'm planning on riding for my job, which involves doing deliveries in my area, (as the deliveries are small, can be done on an MC no problem), and I currently drive about 2-300 miles daily.

As for boots, is there such a thing as a boot that would feel reasonably comfortable for 10-12 hours/day?

As for helmets, I'm looking for a full face with a flip up chin bar. Any recommendations on good ones?

I've worn the SMX6 boots from alpine stars all day a few times. They are more comfortable than my normal boots. They do squeak a little.
Online videos are good for getting an ideas.

First thing we need to know is if you have a budget in mind or is it completely open.

I had an Icon branded helmet which suited me just fine and price is sub 250, upgraded to a shoei rf 1200 , forget I have it on when riding it's so light. This is more expensive about 475 without graphics. Also since the other helmet is 5 years old please get a new one , if I'm not mistaken most helmets have a life of 5 years and need to be replaced, I take it the protective materials break down over time and if you are wearing an old helmet it may not protect you like it should if you were to go down. Chime in please if I'm completely wrong on the age thing..

I have found that for me at least to go with the best you can afford. No price on safety. For helmets I like Shoei and Arai. For me it was about fit not so much price but in the Arai i bought an rx7 corsair because if fit me great. Later on I bought a Shoei x12. Thats the one I use now. Both are great. THis Shoei was the first one outside of Arai that fit me correctly. For jackets and such I have Alpinestars mostly. I have an older smx1 jacket and an smx i think it is, one piece race suit. Great quality. Ive had some other jackets but Alpinestars seems to be the best so far I have found. For gloves I had a pair of HELD Phantom gloves for about 7 years before I replaced them this year with a set of Alpinestars gp pro gloves. Both are super good quality. for boots I have a pair of Sidi vertigo airs. Fantastic race boots. Ill never own any other brand of race boots but these. It saved my leg in a crash some years ago so Im sold. ..

I would have to say, for a combination of boots and helmet, that I'd like to stay below comma prices. And at that level, a removable, washable liner in the helmet is a must. (Do boots have liners that could be washed?)

For boots take a look at the aerostitch combat touring boots, they are not as protective as a race style boot, however they are comfortable to spend an entire day wearing and to walk in. Just be warned that the 'stitch boots take a looong time to break in.

For all the rest of the gear, be patient and check out closeouts and sales and you should be able to get it all bought reasonably.

I've worn size 9 boots, (non-motorcycle) but generally I take a 10 sneaker. My foot is 10-10.25 inches from ball to end of big toe.
