Key chip

Managed to lose one of my two keys for the new bike. Got a replacement key cut but it didn't have the chip, so it wouldn't activate the bike. I was surprised, on ordering a replacement from the dealer (just an uncut blank for $48) that the code that came on the key ring is essentially just a part number. So it's a chip, but it doesn't have any security ID attached to my specific Vin or ECU.

If if anybody knows differently, please let the rest of us know. What I'm also curious about is that apparently, there is a way to pull the chip out of the stock key plastic. I can see a little notch, but I don't know anything more about it.

Gen 3's have the immobilizer in the US? The Gen 2's (at least) do not. News to me.

Gen 3,s in the US have chips? I was not aware of this. I will look at my key.
