I don't really enjoy electrical stuff myself!  I don't mind chasing wires to find out where they lead, but once there I would rather not splice into them.  You should have seen me get that undertail wiring straight.  Scary stuff!

could help seeing that the wood post are in direct contact with the ground. Any footing?
You wanna make sure that it does not suck the humidity from the dirt.
Maybe you described it somewhere in the thread but I didn't read the whole thing.
BTW, I'm a building engineer, specialized in ventilation but knows the basics.
