:banghead: Sorry. That would mean it's time for a timeout. If valve retainer failure is the cause you might want to present the parts back to the manufacture of those parts. Best case they might help with rebuilding costs. Worse case they will tell you to take a flying leap.

boy would that open up a door... Dear sirs... my motor was making a few ponies when your titanium retainer gave up the ghost and dropped a valve on my $80,000 motor, please see enclosed parts list and start sending replacements ASAP. Sincerely Joe Racer"

I am with earlier poster.. as a primary cause of failure? kind of sketchy.. maybe floated a valve? kissed a piston first? was the valve torched by chance or could you determine if the stem stretched? (around the fillet usually)

If your building any machine to race, this is going to happen sooner or later. Ya just have to accept it, or just decide you want to race but winning isn't what your after ! Just goes with the Business. It does deflate you though, absolutely everytime it happens :beerchug:

This sucks. I feel for you. I know what the frustration feels like. I've owned my 06'turbo Busa since sept 07' and have only rode it 3.5 months the whole time I've owned it. It's one problem after another. Nothing I have done, just Murphy at work.

Step back, take a breather and look over your engine. Is it just the topend? Any rods shot? So close yet so far. I know this.

S#%t happens, take a break.

Have at it with some JB Weld and you'll be up and running again in no time!

Sorry, couldn't resist. Let us know what you decide to do about all this and how it goes. Sounds like you at least have the potential to get your dream bike going.

My boss builds big bore V-8 drag boat motors and they're always having issues like this. They just tear it apart and go at it again until they get it right. And they ALWAYS get it right.

Put your heart back into it when you recover emotionally and you'll be off and running again. Most important, learn what you can from the experience.
