Ok for those who dont know,

Over the past 2 years I have been building a race bike.. It is a 06 LE Busa. 1500cc, with some spray on it.. I spared no money building this. EVERYTHING was top shelf.

Yesterday was dyno day. Bike has a motec digital FI system, that has 3 differnet maps 1 for no gas, 1 for 1 stage of gas and 1 for both stages. I did some home work and got ti running good enough to get in the trailer and over to the dyno shop..

First pull we made bike was PIG RICH.. new plugs did some tuning and kicked out some good numbers. But still very rich and we have yet to play with the timing.

next pull was even better only 2hp off the 300 mark on motor.. still pretty rich so we leaned out the fuel again and added 2 dergees of total timing.

next pull bike sounded like a pro stock drag bike until a little over 9K rpm when it want BANG shot a 7 foot long flame out the pipe and died..

We both knew it was not good.. NOT GOOD AT ALL.. our first assesment of how bad it was came when I pulled the #2 plug, and it was smashed.. I got a sick feeling in my tummy. Pulled the valve cover and saw the intake cam split in 2 pieces, one of the #2 intake valves missing and the retainer broken.

Seems the valve retainer broke, causing the cam shaft to brake sending the valve into the piston splitting it in 2 scaring the cylinder beyond repair and smashing what was left of the valve into the other 3 and destroying my combustion chamber.. No telling what else was damaged form the whole thing but I am not going to even look at the bike for a few weeks..

I can only imagine the disappointment you're feeling. Like you said, just walk away for a week or so and go back when you feel you should.

Sorry to hear bro.

That's got to be both frustrating and disappointing.

hate to hear this...like you said yourself, walk away for a few days until you can think clearly and look at the bike without an attack of nausea then start gathering the pieces to put it back together

oh man it's never good to hear something like this. How much clearance did you have the cam set at? Just curious... Retainer failure as the root cause seems a bit uncommon.

Sorry to hear this. I know when my engine decided to window the case I felt sick for days and days.

Give it a few days, and go back to it.

Oh man, I feel your pain. Its very difficult putting so much hard work into something, and then having to start all over again.

But that's just what you have to do, start again. Best of luck :beerchug:
