Okay, so I ain't the greatest with computers, and it's been running kinda slow lately. So, on the advice of multiple others, I tried to defrag it last night, then I noticed something, before I went to bed, I saw it was at 4%, then it dropped to 0

Okay, maybe it'll work itself out... nope. Woke up at 5 to leave for work (computer was trying to defrag for at LEAST 6 hours), and I noticed when I woke it up (Screen saver where the screen just goes blank) that it was at 4%, then it dropped back to 0!! Any Ideas what the problem is?

turn screen savers off and anti virus... Close all apps, nothing worse than something writing to the HD while your trying to defrag

What he said ^

And when was the last time you defrag, if its been a long time it will take a long time to defrag. Good luck.

Yep! Captian nailed it! You should also set you pagefile to a static size, roughly twice your RAM. Don't mess with it if you're not familiar with it!

what they all said.

The other thing you could try Mr. Ben Dover is scanning for traces left by all them "naughty sites". Grab some Ad-Aware and Spybot, some programs like that...my guess, they'll find lots of stuff you just don't want. Plus kill all the programs you thought were once cool, but are just bogging you down now.My main pc only has about 4% usage of the ram at any given time, and just a few processes going at once.

You can customize yer PC to do what you want...have certain things run, others not until you call them up. Kill messanger, and all that other crud that lights up on start up.

Buy some big azz sticks of Ram too, and a smokin' fast processor too.

good ta go....

Yeah, and as RSD has lead to...Get Spybot Search & Destroy. There are others out there that claim to be better, but I have been using this one for over 2 years with no problems.

The best by far out is Mcafee ASAP you can get it for about 35.00 a year and it check virus, adware, spyware and they are in BEta right now to offer desktop firewall as part of the package... Its a pretty incredible package.

just flip the screen upside down and shake it for 30 seconds and all the frags will fall back into place.

just wanted to know how much free space do you have? doing a little file cleanup will help out tremendously, back up junk you don't need and it'll free up much needed space to move files around.
My company went from Norton to Trend Micro (and trend has free virus scans that's our IT guys really reccomend) it's called House Call get it @ http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
