I stopped subscribing to Cycle World a while back because they have too little sport bike stuff. I don't need their "revelation" about something we all know from our firsthand experiences.
Good point Raydog, although I have to say other mags like SR sometimes do exactly what you described. Where you are right that no magazine wrote how this bike can be modded in two opposite direction - one to become a tourer, and another to become a track bike, and that's the kind of versatility which shines in the real world.
