Hayabusa History question

Don,t forget the Stainless Steel mid pipes change in 02.

The '99 and '00 models went 202 mph, right?  Theoretically...
theoretically yes but aerodynamics plays a huge roll over about 150 or so and the variables are abundant and will keep it from that 200 mark.

Now with a clear calm day and a small rider tucked really good and a good exhaust and a real good tune and it might make it there but I am not for sure.

I know many of you feel HP isn't an issue because we still dominate in torque, but many people's perception on vehicles (not just on bikes) is based on HP alone. If someone who knows nothing about bikes hears that we have the king of the motorcycle jungle, they may be impressed. But when that same person picks up a motorcycle magazine and sees the 1000s have just as much HP as our 1300, the respect is lost.

Now before anyone here begins to flame me to ashes, understand. This is what I'm hearing from non-busa riders.
-1000s are just as fast.
-'Busa are outdated, just look at their cockpit.
-Hayabusas need to go on a diet
and the list goes on and on. As I said, these are comments from non-busa riders, those are not my opinions.

I love my 'Busa and would never consider owning another bike after riding this machine, but there was a time in which the Suzuki Hayabusa was the undisputed king of bikes. Now that everyone has stepped up majorly since '99 and the 'Busa has stayed pretty much the same, that's no longer the case in the eyes of other riders.
In my opinion, if you're that concerned about what other riders think of the Hayabusa, you bought it for a very different reason than I did.  I bought mine because it's the bike I wanted, for me.

I'm under the assumption you either didn't fully read my post or you simply misunderstood it. If you think I heard all these good things about the 'Busa, went out and bought one, began to hear bad things about it, and now I regret it .... you're dead wrong.

I knew I would own a 'Busa back in mid 2000 when I saw it for the first time. It just had a certain mistique about it which called me to it. After learning what it was all about, I wanted it even more. Three weeks before I bought mine, I told some friends and co-workers about my decision. I was met with so much negativity, it was rediculous. Guess what happened, I still bought it because, much like you, it was the bike I knew I wanted. I couldn't care less what anyone has to say about me or my bike. Until said person decides to pay for my bike, said person has no influence on any decision I make in life.

The main thing I see that has changed about the 'Busa is it's reputation. As mentioned above, the 'Busa has seen minor changes here and there over its 6 years of existence which, to me, should be a concern.

The '04 750 gixxer produces as much HP as the '02 R1 meaning Suzuki is improving its smaller bikes but not the 'Busa. Just as the 750 has improved so has the liter bikes. I'm not sure if its because they are concetrating on their better selling bikes or if its because they feel "if it ain't broke don't fix it". There was a chart posted here not long ago showing the 1000 Gixxer having 3 HP more than the 'Busa. To me, that's unacceptable.

PS
To anyone out there who owns anything besides a Hayabusa and is getting big-headed after reading that, they say ignorance is bliss. Don't let your ignorance lead you to get spanked by a 'Busa. Its not a pretty thing.
Many people's perception on vehicles is naive. Seriously all every day people know is HP, which means nothing. Torque is the grunt that makes our bikes what they are. So whatif other bikes have more horses. Does that mean that they are faster than ours....NOOOO!!!!

Is it true the brakes on a gen II are 4 disc instead of 6 and why would Suzuki do this ( assuming 6 is better than 4 discs)

You mean piston, not disc. Suzuki went with Radial brakes on the GenII which are more efficent and provide better braking performance with less hardware.

4 piston calipers on the front...Gen1 used 6 Piston calipers. Only 2 discs (rotors) are used on all models for the front brake system.

The 6 piston system is crap compared to the 4 piston set up...MORE IS NOT BETTER :banghead:

And this thread is 4 years OLD and DEAD DEAD DEAD :banghead:

:welcome: to the board

Well ,that sure answered my question...it's better to get pistoff than piston. I'll pay more attention next time thanks guys
