Guns deaths in our country exceed automobile deaths. there is something fundamentally wrong with that.

You sure about that? Last time I check there were over 40,000 auto deaths per year and we have over 300 million people now. I think you should check your facts. Whatever the case, people should worry more about cancer, strokes and heart attacks than getting murdered by a gun, statistically speaking.

Also comparing our country with other countries with so many different factors can't be done fairly in my opinion. We are a very unique country that has many different factors that most other countries don't have (so many different races, cultures, border problems, freedoms, size of our country, the list can go on and on). I know what you are saying and agree that their is a problem. I don't know how to fix it either.

Japan's culture is completely different. It's apples and oranges. Look at their rape and molestation rates if there is any question about violent crime.

People commit crimes all the time with out guns and it would continue if we had some way of rounding all the guns up and melting them. Car jackers muggers robbers all use any weapon available. Criminals get guns from other criminals or through criminal activities and if you tried to make them illegal in the states they would still get them. Prohibition doesn't work in this country.

Someone posted above that we should be fixing the root of the violence and not the tool. I agree. Socioeconomics is a huge factor. Parenting and education., but who wants to educate the poor right... May have to pay more taxes.

Btw I would happily melt all my guns down if I knew it would prevent anymore violent crime. But that's not going to happen and I'm going to do my damnedest to not be that victim.

Switzerland went the other an way an it's working better.

Switzerland is a very safe country to live in or visit. Unlike many other European countries, violent crime including assault and robbery is virtually unheard of in Switzerland. The rare cases of violent crime that do occur, often involve foreigners who are living in Switzerland.

My comparison is as pointless and useless as the one between Chicago and Afgan

I don't see what the problem is. - 99% of the deceased are gangbanger, drug dealing scum who've been shot by rival gangbanger, drug dealing scum. Even the so-called "innocent bystanders" are nearly always future drug dealers/welfare leeches, so the net result of their removal is a win for the tax payer.

How about we declare war on americas gangs instead of people half a world away? They are more or less an armed military force in our cities, why do we let them go unchecked?

Legalizing drugs across the board would cool the gang problem considerably also. Junkies are gonna be junkies, legal or not... the war on drugs is clearly not working and has no chance of ever working... all it does is create violence. Such is true of prohibition of any kind.

The point was made well by Wv Rider. Change has to come from within and as with all problems if the victims don't want to change themselves than no amount of outside intervention will! Ban guns, melt guns, or do whatever but if people there and elsewhere don't want to stop killing each other than it never will cease. No guns they will stab each other, no knives than it will be bats or whatever but it is a systemic and societal problem no amount of gun talk will cure.
And as long as they are perceived as thugs killing thugs do you really think anyone will ever care to try and stop it? Nope!

You cannot carry in the entire state of Illinois from what I have heard. Looks like it is working well for them there....

You can't get a ccw in cali either, and they don't honor any other states ccw. And of course open carry isn't allowed.
