That's expensive for sure.........the biggest difference is our winter weather where we burn more fuel and the distances we travel.....many of our medical specialists are over 2 hrs away...Our regular 91 just went from $2.47 a liter to $2.59 at my local discount fuel station.
But once a week they have 24 hours of ‘discounted’ fuel… about 10% off the price.
So You pay NZD$6.56 per gallon regular. and I pay NZD$10.32 per gallon 91 regular.
But to get that in perspective I get $590 a week on the pension ( over 65 years) and employed mechanics average $40 per hour before tax and contracting self employed mechanics charge $60 an hour, workshops charge customers around $120 an hour plus 15% tax.
Good thing is it’s kosher to keep earning and working AND collect the pension, we just have to pay secondary tax rate on the earnings ( pension is already taxed and classed as primary tax.)
So when I retired, started receiving the pension, ( we call it national super annuation here) and carried on working and earning, it was like getting an extra $15 an hour on top of my pay rate!
Tell me, do you guys use the US gallon or the Imperial gallon in Canada?
The US gallon being 4 liters ( 4 quarts)
In NZ we use the Imperial gallon ( 4.54 liters) but in reality we always just measure everything in liters here, the gallon is a thing of the past since we switched to metric back in the late 60’s.
We use liters and it's 3.8 liters to one US gallon.....we too have switched to the metric system in the '70s but I can use both....
