RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia police say former NASCAR driver Kevin Grubb died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Henrico County Police spokesman Lt. Doug Perry said Thursday that Grubb's body was found by personnel at the Richmond-area Alpine Motel on Wednesday.

Perry said they found no indication of any drug use inside the room, but toxicology results may not be available for up to six weeks.

The 31-year-old was suspended from NASCAR indefinitely in 2006 because he refused to submit to a random drug test following the Busch Series race at Richmond International Raceway.

The Mechanicsville native was previously suspended in March 2004 for failing a drug test. But he agreed to random testing as part of his reinstatement. Grubb's career began with NASCAR's lower-tier series in 1997.

man i can drive where do i sign up? I dont have much sympathy for people committing suicide ,but prayer sent to the family

he had major drug problems!

And, once you get to that level of racing, you have every resource in the WORLD available to you for help. The fact that he didnt take it is on him.

I feel bad for his family, but not for him. He took the cowards way out.

Maybe his real problems were not the drugs... Rather a manifestation in the form of drug use. RIP

it's a sad thing, especially for his family.

sometimes our personal demons win...

So young too.... My prayers go out to the family.

Addiction is a horrible thing and most people are too embarassed to ask for help (or on the other side, they don't want to offend someone by trying to help them)... sometimes we need to reach out and help our fellow humans. (okay.. I'll climb down off of my soapbox now)
