As I awoke Sat morning hoping to go on a ride with sixpack77 & 06+5busa my back was killing me. So I had to back out. Then my wife comes out of the bedroom around 9 : 30 AM hardly able to walk and tells me her back is hurting her as well. She said it was bothering her a little when she laid down Friday night but didn't think much of it. So as the day goes on hers get a lot worse and I take her to the ER around 2 PM. They run a few test, Blood work, Urine test and CT scan and find nothing. 6 hrs later they send us home with her all druged up and a few pain meeds. Mussel relaxers, Hydrocodone. She had to be wheeled in and out of the ER and cant walk at all with out me holding her up.

I do my best to keep her druged up all day Sunday so she can rest hoping she will get better and not be in so much pain and she sleeps most of the time.

Sunday night we go to bed around 11 or so and she still cannot walk by herself. Around 4 AM She wakes me up screaming in pain. I cannot even get her out of the bed this time. I have to call 911 to come and get her. Back to the ER for another round of pain med and test. This time they give her Morphine, Zofarn, Toradol, Dilaudid and Solu-Medrol. They run a full back Xray this time and still cannot find anything. So another 6 or so hrs later they send her home with a Medrol Does Pack, Baclofen for muscle spasms and Dilaudid for pain.

So break down of the cost
Co Pay 100.00 each visit Total 200.00
Ambulance ride 250.00
Ct Scan Guess 1000.00
Full Back XRay 800.00
Hospital stay 12 hrs I am guessing at least 5000.00 Total 7250.00

End results. My poor baby is still unable to walk without my assistance. :banghead:

For me if you are no better when you leave then you are when you get there you should not have to pay. I know its silly to feel this way but I felt like she was just a number and the people there did not care anything about her at all.

Now get this. They cannot order an MRI from the ER unless you have no feelings in your lower extremities and you have to be referred to a specialist who said they could not see her until the 17TH of next month. To beet is all I am the one with the bad back and she has never had any trouble with hers. Boy am I glad I didn't go to the ER for mine.

What a money racket!! No wonder the Dr's are so rich and the poor are so poor. I do not look forward to the future of this country when it comes to health care. Its sad you have to see a specialist for everything now days and no one wants to help with out someone else holding their hand. Man I feel better! Rant over for now

Prayers that it will be better tomorrow :please:

i think ER's are only for if you are bleeding out or a bone is sticking out through the skin :banghead: otherwise, they are just going to send you to someone else...prayers sent that she finds some relief from the pain and they can figure out what it going on!

Wow, so sorry to hear this. Sending prayers for you both for a speedy recovery. Does she have a regular doctor she can get in to see? They usually can order an MRI immediately.

Find a different ER if you have to go back. Sounds like you found one of the processing plants, they just turn folks in and out all day long. Also call your insurance and make sure they know the second trip was a result of being released without having been provided any improvements. Maybe they can find a way to stick some of it back on the ER. Make sure you know what your deductibles are too, once you hit the top of your out of pocket annual expense you should not get a bill for anything else except copays. Its a messy tangled web of craptasticness for sure when it comes to healthcare and insurance but we found that by going to a different ER we got 2000% different and better treatment. Hope she gets to feeling better soon, I know how it is with a spouse with a bad back.

Hope all is well with your wife and she comes out ok.
I think if your admitted the ambulance charge is waived.
And if the second visit was directly related to first the second copay should be as well.
I think?

That's awful to hear, I really hope you both feel better soon.
You're both in our prayers!

Yes her reg. Dr happen to call her this eve and she was telling her what was going on and with in 30 minutes she had her an appointment for this Sat. Its amazing what some people can or are willing to help someone while on the other hand someone can seem like they don't care at all. She has only seen this Dr 2 times and she goes out of her way to help like this. That does make my day a little better. Thanks for the :please:

Oh wow, sorry you both are down in your backs. Hope your wife's pain goes away soon and yours too.

They said they could not admit her for back pain because she still had feelings in her legs. Its just crazy the way the rules are here. I am going to check with the Ins. and tell them about her having to go back from the first visit. I hope to keep at least one of the copays.

Thanks Marty. I hope you guys had a good ride. I have an app. with my Dr tomorrow. He is saying that if I am not willing to have another surg. then he does not see a need to have a scan or an MRI. I told the nurse to tell his stupid ass that I cannot make that decision until I know what is wrong. I am going to let him have it tomorrow. If my wife can get me in with her Dr I am going to tell him to stick it and go with hers.

Its not the hospital rules its the insurance company guidelines. The cost of medical services is going through the roof even more thanks to obama and his bs. The squeeze is on the insurance companies to get people out of the hospital and keep them out.

Yep, it's official. The Medical system in America sucks!
Bring her to Australia. Much better here! Insurance companies haven't taken over, yet.

Hope you're both better soon!

I'm so sorry to hear this, and having been through years of dealing with an undiagnosed herniated disc (took 3 years and 4 docs to finally get an MRI, followed by immediate surgery), I know how painful and unbelievably debiliating back problems are. I was on narcotics for 3 years, so used to taking 'em I could actually ride the Busa while doped up :banghead: Not good...

I hope she gets a firm diagnosis very soon and that something can be done to help whatever's causing this problem :please:

It has always been my dream to come there. Thanks

Thanks, She is feeling better today and can walk without me holding on to her. Hopefully she can go back to work Thursday for a 1/2 day and go from there.
As far as me,

I went to my Dr today and he told me that there is nothing he could do for me. Because of the screws and in my back he did not know what to do. He was not sure what the screws were made of so he was not sure what to order as far as an MRI or CT Scan. He suggested I go to an Orthopedic to see what they say. So off tomorrow I will try to get to see one of them. Thanks for all the thoughts prayes
