Darned old Bandit....

Sold my Bandit to a guy who's coming from a couple hours away...I decided to give it a short spin for old time's sake and when I hit the button, it clunked and then the starter makes a whirring sound but won't engage.

I can bump start it (at least it fires as it's a cold hearted beast). I took off the cover for the starter clutch and no shavings or anything odd..

I started it up last night several times and it fired right up and ran like a million bucks...

He's almost here and said he will still take it and I'm giving it to him basically...

I guess the old bitch doesn't want to leave me...

All these years and never a slight problem with the darned thing....grrrrrrr!

Giving it to him? A few weeks before I sold my last CBX the alternator went out. I replaced it but if the buyer had shown up (that) day I too would’ve been perplexed. Old=parts can fail. Doesn’t mean the bike is bad, just a failed part.

Well, I dropped the price to lower than low...he couldn't say no. However, I've had the bike many years and it owes me nothing so I was still ahead in my opinion.

I think it was the planetary gear on the starter system...it's a very simple system...

It's loaded in his truck and I escorted him out of town on my Busa (which he absolutely loved...).

I helped him load it but mixed feelings as it let me down by not starting....I was kind of glad to see it go at that point...

When I was putting the Busa in the garage, it looked odd in there without the old girl sitting in the corner...

I know the problem is a simple one and he'll have it going probably by tomorrow....
