I think that many feel the slim rear of the gen 1 matches their expectation from the appearance of a race replica. Many have commented on the fat rear of the gen 2 for example and to wit, some put liter bike tails on the busa. I would say that the bike is big and bulbous, a wasp-like tail creates a significant visual imbalance, and the gen 2's fat rear matches the tub of lard front.
The gen 1 and gen 2 appear utterly unique. The angular gen 3 is dropping the unique visual appearance that made the bike stand out. However if the aerodynamics can be maintained or even improved, then any such design changes are welcome to me, despite the generic angular flavor, as they preserve the spirit of "why" the bike originally looked like it did.
