Im
In Cali- Far as I know, blue and red are illegal bcuz it’s impersonating a cop.

I had blue only on a gsxr and had no issues, my buddy had yellow, no issues. This was some years ago tho.
Here in Maryland any color or flashing lights are okay as long as you are parked.

RED and BLUE and any flashing lights are illegal if you are in motion.

Dang, that's kinda the point though - to be more visible while moving but I get it from the police perspective.

I still run blue most of the time and I've only been pulled over one time for it but that was like 10 year ago. Nowadays they never seem to pull bikes over.

They are illegal to have on while riding here.....the cops pull them over quicker than quick if they are on......
They are legal to have on while moving where I live as long as they are solid and not flashing, especially not red and or blue flashing. They can BE red or blue on solid though. My neighbor is a city cop and has a ZX-14 with underbody lights so I asked him about it.

To be honest it was a pain in the butt!

I tried to keep them as hidden as much as possible with only one area showing visible lights but I think it was a good compromise. It's also a pain when I have to remove the fairings.

Did you want to know the placement of the strips/pods?

I placed the control module inside of the rear tail (hidden).
I just noticed that wireless light kits exist which would make the installation a lot easier. Charge them up and velcro them in place - but the charge only lasts "up to 10 hours", then you have to peel them all off to recharge.
Another option at least.

According to what I find CA allows underglow lights as long as they aren't red or flashing. Somewhere else I read also said blue is a no-no because of the resemblance to law enforcement vehicles.
Also, they can't be directly visible by other drivers so reflected light is ok - not so distracting.
From this and from the seemingly lax enforcement of other traffic and criminal laws here in CA I'd say go for it.
80 MPH on the freeway seems to be ok, excessively dark tinted windows, loud exhaust, illegal parking, etc just aren't enforced anymore in our lovely state.
The article deals mainly with cars but motorcycles are also included.

I know this is old, but I custom make rgb LEDs from a reel. I live in North County, San Diego. My riding group has been pulled over a number of times, but noone has ever received a citation for their lights even though we always have them on at night. Just wanted to chime in since I plan to put in work on my Busa as soon as I clear up my garage.

Thanks for the comment. I’ve put the light idea on the back burner for now. I almost never ride at night anyway so it’s not a priority.
My focus now is a 1441cc head cam and piston kit from Carpenter Racing in a few months.
Gotta save up for that.

Regarding a light kit I’ll be going with a rechargeable version instead of wired.
After a lot of looking around I found some on Amazon that have the longest battery life out there.
