Stay tough on them.

FYI, this is what I use as my cotter pin for the axle nut. It's a visual thing that I can always see, and it's reusable too.

that is a tuff call, take it back or repair it yourself, humm if you take it back maybe they fire the mechanic that did that crap and treat you right, but on the other hand the same genius does the work again and you get the same results,,, wow that sux

So I first took all the parts into another shop and asked if they would mind taking a peek. Didn't realize the bearing did NOT have play in the sprocket hub. It was actually the wrong size and did not have the pressed fit. He also installed the other two bearings incorrectly causing one to go bad very very fast. And both seals wrong.

So with all this knowledge in mind I went back to the shop, wheel and parts in hand prepared for a fight. To my surprise no one there I recognized. The previous manager (last month) was fired and the new one came with a mechanic to revamp the shop. He seemed honest and asked, and was promised the new mechanic and him would make everything right. They will replace the all the bearings with oem bearings and seals (instead of the all balls bearings that were used) and anything else the new mechanic doesn't like. On their dime of course. And since I will only be picking up the wheel I'll be able to inspect upon pickup.

They are also asking me to bring the complete bike in to check the front wheel bearings and the suspension work they previously did.

Feeling ok about it. I hope I don't regret it, and wouldn't have agreed if the same mechanics and manager were there.

That's not a bad idea. Easier than a cotter pin too.
