It seems that we often times miss how truly incredible someone is or the importance they hold until they have passed away. My uncle Bob "Tex" Schalit gave me this story before he died because he wanted it to be remembered. I pass on to you all his story about his memory of a pivotal moment in our nations history... I've posted this before so I am going to link to it to keep the comments going...

That's quite a read....I always like reading these stories.

I could sit and talk to the old veterans all day just listening to what they experienced. Often times they open up to a fellow vet. Some of their stories are hair raising.

I lost my grandfather Dec 1943 in Ortona Italy, I would have liked to have heard his stories....
