When your daughter has this kind of thinking going on...what else is left to say. She makes me proud.
"The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all....The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.... The policy of the American government is to leave their citizens free, neither restraining nor aiding them in their pursuits...When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty....I am not a friend to a very energetic government. It is always oppressive...What country can preserve its liberties if its rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance?" (Thomas Jefferson) These quotes are eerily prophetic. The USA of today is not the one of Jefferson's time. We are not the same place, our people do not have the same values, and our policies are so far from the intent of our foundation, I don't see how, short of a second Civil War, we will ever return to the state of liberty that was the core of our foundation. Be it issues I support or the more common issues I oppose, the overreaching and unopposed power of the American government is inexcusable. The irony is that we are slowly but decisively becoming the very thing our founding fathers fought to free us from. RANT. OVER.
For those not on Facebook, her rant was not quite over, but she makes me smile with every word.
