Hi all...
I'm in the process of changing the fork seals, but i can't unscrew the bottom fork bolt (Damper Cartridge Bolt).
I lossened it before dismantling, but now i need to unscrew it completely.
It just keeps turning without undoing.
I know there is a tool that can be inserted into the fork tube to hold the Damper still while the bolt is unscrewed, but these tools are expensive.

Im wondering if anyone has ever made their own tool to do the job and if you have how did you make it?

I've trued holding the damper to the side of the inside of the fork tube, but everything still turns with the bolt grrrrrr.

Any tips would be great.

Thanks in advance - great site by the way..

You need to put the cap back on the fork tube and crank down the preload. Get a helper to help you compress the fork tube then use and air wrench to back it out in one quick motion.

Thanks for the tips guys -

Another question is which way round does the fork seal washer go?

It has a rounded edge on one side and flat on the other (I should have taken note on dismantling oops)

Does the flat edge go in the fork tube so it sits completely flat on the stop?

Thanks
Andy

It's ok i sorted it
I stripped the other fork to make sure and for anyone else with the same question, the rounded edge of the washer sits against the fork tube stopper so the flat edge faces out of the tube.

Thanks
Andy
