Wind speed-at what point does it ruin your ride?

I have ridden in wind than makes me change a lane or two. Usually make sure noone is next to you. Bad part is when the gust stops blowing hard your usually forced back the oppisite direction from counter steer. Not fun at all.

I figure that the wind just "comes with the territory" when it comes to riding. Don't like it a whole lot but don't give it much thought either. This post has caused me more to think of it than I have in 30 some years of riding!

(Wag @ Sep. 15 2006,14:52) Keep your speed up and stay loose on the bike and it'll ride out winds and truck blasts just fine.  The gyroscopic force of fast-moving wheels will do a lot to take care of you.

I think 25mph or more is bad to ride in because it makes you counter steer to much. Also I hate going around semi's because of blowback. I think it is very unsafe to ride if it 30mph or more. I was on I95 last week heading to Baltimore were I hit this nice long sweeping righthand turn. I was in the middle lane doing about 80-85 mph when a huge gust of wind hit me hard making me change lanes when I didn't want to. I've hit this turn many time at that speed with my knee about a foot off the road and have lots of fun doing it, but that day the wind almost wiped me out. I got push by the wind from the middle lane to the left shoulder were I rode the shoulder til it straighten out and stopped to check my pants and say WTF just happened.

Yeah, getting hit by a gust in a curve will definitely increase your pucker factor.

If I didn't mention it, I'm moving to Idaho Falls. Reading about it, they mention there is constant wind up to 13 mph. I think that would not be bad at all compared to the gusts up to 40 in TX. It's gusty here all the time, like the guy from OK was saying OK is.

Anybody here ever fly a plane? It's like a crosswind landing, you just have to compensate for it!

The only scary wind I've encountered so far is in a thunderstorm- MASSIVE side gusts out of nowhere will really get your attention on a wet road!

Around here 20mph is a breezy day. It's not windy until it's blowing about 50mph.

Depends on the direction of the wind and how gusty it becomes.

Wind here in Vegas is a daily occurrence. Gets irritating.

When the wind starts to change your lane for ya I've had enough. Wind in Eastern Washington get real bad, gust beyond 40mph is very common.

it only bothers me when it makes my bike shudder,yknow right before the sonic boom.just kidding it only bothers me when it can push me into another lane then its too much!!!

That is my biggest fear is riding on the freeway around the tractor trailors, I always try to avoid it, I always have been

If you live in my neck of the woods, you get used to it. Like Wag said, sit light, and keep the speed up. No biggie.

The wind doesn't blow around here....it sucks.

Need more then just 30mph to keep me from riding. Whats weird is when you are turning right on the highway at speed, and you and the bike are leaning left past center.

Over 25- is a bit of a pucker-- Actually, I never really mind sidewind unless there's too much traffic. I would take the wind over not riding, But avoid certain roads with wind and traffic.
