I find that 15 mph with gusts to 30 (common in TX) can ruin a ride. When it starts pushing my bike hard enough so that I go sideways, I generally call it quits. I was wondering what you guys thought.

anything over 10 causes pukkering in my joe rockets.

Call me what you will. all_coholic.gif

I generally dont like to ride if the wind exceeds 30 mph.but my love of riding takes precedence<sp>over the wind on most occasions.

Too much wind makes riding feel like "work"... so when I start getting blown around it's not fun.

I don't mind riding in the wind. Better than not riding at all.

However, there was this one ride this year when my rear was sliding because of the wind when the wind blows from the inside of the turn. I considered going back, but I was 2/3 of the way out, so I kept riding.

Just staying low on the bike and relaxed, and compensating for the wind works fine. Pleasure factor definitely goes down.

I get diff results on diff bikes, but anyhing that causes the bike to move sideways as a suprise....prob over 30.

Anyone else find the Busa very sensitive to side air currents? Mine has me white-knuckling it around tractor-trailers at highway speeds or in strong cross-winds more than any other bike I've owned. When I pass a truck, first the turbulence off the back of the trailer has me skating around, then the blast off the front of the tractor as I pull about even with it moves me over a foot or two and makes me feel V-E-R-Y unsteady.

Perhaps that's the price we pay for all that side bodywork on a light motorcycle.

ya probably 30 or so did a ride to oregon a few weeks back and had a head wind the whole way was really tired after i got there the wind will take its toll but i would do it all over again in hot second oh ya, i am. Leaving in the morning for oregon again jump9.gif

50 to 60 mph gusts start to ruin my ride, but what I really don't like is stopping off to eat and leaving the bike in a parking lot for fear it'll get blown over.

I dont know i think my 1000 is worse when i pass a truck the busa seems more planted but ya, it will shove ya around some its like sailing, just lean into her biggrin.gif

worst i ever rode in was 45 mph gusts & it was a trip riding leaning to one side to go straight....
although the faster i went the easier it was ti handle....
I would say 35 mph or more is more stress than fun...

Keep your speed up and stay loose on the bike and it'll ride out winds and truck blasts just fine. The gyroscopic force of fast-moving wheels will do a lot to take care of you.

I honestly don't give wind gusts of 30 MPH or less a 2nd thought. Wind gusts have to be far greater than a mere 30 MPH to ruin my ride! I'll still go riding even when there's 50 to 55 MPH gusts, but it won't be an open highway ride day. On these higher wind gust days, it's into the wooded back roads where wind is diminished significantly by the trees.

The more you ride in heavy wind the more you get used to it. As stated ... Stay low and relax a bit and it won't feel quite as bad.

Know what you mean, sometimes it is like riding a sailboard.

I just tuck and increase my speed maybe 10mph as I go by big rigs. Really not to bad that way.

I'd have to say 30mph head wind is not so bad, its when that 30mph or greater comes from the side that ruins my ride.

My size and weight combined with the Busa makes for a very stable ride. I weigh somewhere around 260lbs.
I am always riding like a bat outta hell so I never spend much time around Tractor trailers...

Wind has never bothered me... Even when I'm riding in a straight line leaned over at a nice angle... The only time it really irks me is when it's windy and I'm passing a semi cuz then I'm all over my lane. Other than that... no problems.

When I overtake a semi I do a "truck tuck", lay on the tank & wack the throttle. Dirty air currents seems to have less effect when your accelerating.

Other than that IMHO a steady cross wind is part of the ride. Buffeting cross winds are a PITA especially in the corners.

20 mph with gust of 25 to 30 makes the ride crummy. But here in Oklahoma if you don't ride in 20 mph winds, you want ride very much  sad.gif
