YEAH!!!!! The US SHOULD Follow example! Unbelievable...AWESOME! Great share!
Only works when there are more good people around than bad
There are many more good folks who own guns than bad. Last estimate was there are over 200 million guns in private hands in this country.
Trouble is that when only one of those folks does something wrong they are singled out and talked about on CNN to ad nauseum making all the rest look bad.
Lets do a little figuring. Figure the percentage of criminal shootings in the USA as compared to the amount of guns owned.
2004 stats which you can see are far lower since 1992-93 which just so happens to be when most states enacted CWP laws.
A little more than 8,000 Homicides by handgun and around 4,000 by other guns.
So lets divide 12,000 by 200,000,000 guns and you get .000006% or 6 one hundred thousandth of a percent of guns owned are used to commit a crime.
???
I'd say we are pretty trustworthy in this subject.
Right-To-Carry Laws
Gun Control
* Right-to-carry laws require law enforcement agencies to issue handgun permits to all qualified applicants. Qualifications include criteria such as age, a clean criminal record, and completing a firearm safety course. (13)
* In 1986, nine states had right-to-carry laws. (14)
* As of 1998, 31 states have right-to-carry laws, and about half the U.S. population lives in these states. (3)
* Florida adopted a right-to-carry law in 1987. At the time the law was passed, critics predicted increases in violence. The founder of the National Organization of Women, Betty Friedan stated:
"lethal violence, even in self defense, only engenders more violence." (13)
* When the law went into effect, the Dade County Police began a program to record all arrest and non arrest incidents involving concealed carry licensees. Between September of 1987 and August of 1992, Dade County recorded 4 crimes committed by licensees with firearms. None of these crimes resulted in an injury. The record keeping program was abandoned in 1992 because there were not enough incidents to justify tracking them. (13)(15)
* Florida adopted a right-to-carry law in 1987. Between 1987 and 1996, these changes occurred:
Florida
United States
homicide rate
-36%
-0.4%
firearm homicide rate
-37%
+15%
handgun homicide rate
-41%
+24%
(3)
* 221,443 concealed carry licenses were issued in Florida between October of 1987 and April of 1994. During that time, Florida recorded 18 crimes committed by licensees with firearms. (15)
* As of 1998, nationwide, there has been 1 recorded incident in which a permit holder shot someone following a traffic accident. The permit holder was not charged, as the grand jury ruled the shooting was in self defense. (7)
* As of 1998, no permit holder has ever shot a police officer. There have been several cases in which a permit holder has protected an officer's life. (7)

I say lets ban cars...
Hmmm I guess my post didn't come out well... what I mean is 1 good person in a home has his firearm to protect himself an his family and a gang of armed thugs come in the door with guns depending on what he is packing he is outta luck
on a second note I am for people owning guns any kind of guns I am just for requiring gun registration an holding people responsible for who they sell their guns too. This jmo so don't flame me please
My personal view is that the more guns available the more people will get them stolen
and into the wrong hands and in the end you'll have more shootings..
I.e. it's not that often the owner of the gun that actually shoots someone it's more likely stolen and then used to shot/rob someone..
