Just a thought, Did the noise start as soon as your wife found out you got the bike?

I have a tendency to tune any "white noise" like that out and I get a similar sound.

If you can manage to put at least ten miles between you and her the noise should stop.

Check your balancer timing. I went through a similar issue this week. You're going to need a 5mm allen and a large flatblade screwdriver. FSM says basically to start the bike and turn it till it stops making noise. Make sure and mark its present location first if it's not the issue.

wild07 do you remember what page it was on

In the factory service manual(available elsewhere to download) the installation is on section 3, page 98-99. I set it up using the Clymer manual, but dont remember the page numbers.

It is NOT the same as the cam chain tensioner. That is located on the top right hand side of the cylinder head. The crank balancer is located in the crankcase, on the lower left side of the bike.

Ham, I made that previos post without listening/watching the video. If you bought it that way, and you've never been in the lower end of the engine, I'm going to take a stab at it and say someone else has. That, or someone else had screwed with the timing/spacing of the balancer. Mine sounded the EXACT same after I got done doing my trans and a TON of other stuff this winter. Depending on your level of mechanical inclination, it's something that you can take care of your self, or find someone local to you that would be willing to give you a hand. If you want, shoot me a pm and we'll get in touch and I can help walk you through it.

Lower left hand side of the bike. under the fairing on the left. The adjuster/retainer is tucked behind the lower coolant hose, next to the oil supply line that feeds across the front of the block. It's held to the case with a 10mm head bolt, and the pinch bolt is a 5mm allen.

No problem my friend! Glad to help out someone with a similar problem to my own. Just good to know there's a place to be able to put out helpful info and be able to absorb it also.

where exactly is it located?
& can you adjust it with the bike running?

its behind the lower radiator hose..under the stator..loosen the 5mm allen key, start the bike and turn the adjuster with a flat blade screw driver..there are notches on it,so adjust it 1 notch at a time..i believe counter clockwise..atleast mine was.
