There was no "j" sound in language before the 1300's. It was pronounced "y" and spelled with an "i". The true name of the messiah was Yashua. You would say it today as joshua. When he was convicted by the sanhedren (70 judges of ancient Israel) of being a false prophet, his name was to be blotted out of the books acording to moses' curse. But they could not remove his name from the books because the true messiah would be born of the house of david. If they started removing names, the lineage would be lost and when the true messiah came the jews would not be able to trace his lineage. So they were allowed to remove one letter from the offender's name. They removed the "a" from the end of "yashua" making his name in the books "yeshu" , which is a meaningless name to the hebrews. So the spelling became Iesus to the greeks, a combining of yashua and zeus the greek god of hellenistic rome. In the 1300's the "i" became "j" hence the name jesus. But to those of us who know his real name, we use it. Therefore I sent you a blessing in the name of the messiah, Yashua. Hope I did not offend.
