Just curious what type of mods would make an 85 gs1100 be able to hang with a Busa.

Nothing in simple bolt ons. Easiest route would be to slap a turbo on it.

If you want an old school bike that's capable of shredding a Busa, find an '85 KZ750E. The bike came from the factory with digital fuel injection and a turbo. In stock form it won't take a Busa but it does take very well to simple performance mods. It doesn't take a huge investment to push one to 230 hp.

It would take more money to upgrade your bike than to buy a new Hayabusa. About the only cheap way to come close would be NOS and a lot of it.

Are you kidding me? Go to the GS zone at APE. http://gszone.biz/
The sky's the limit with that motor. Countless NHRA championships to prove it. Just depends on your wallet. Hell Nascar teams wish they had a crank as strong (roller bearing) as this thing. It's air cooled, it's old tech but man you can make some snort with this thing. I have seen many 8 second Air cooled street legal naturally aspirated GS's roaming the land. The Busa is a lot easier to get there but it absolutely owes it's heritage to those old school Suzuki's!

Sorry I just Loaded my beloved old 85 GS1150ES on the new owners truck a few minutes ago and I had to throw my 2 cents worth out here. I think I will go for a ride on my Busa now to dry my tears!

It wouldnt take as much as some think if your goal is best E.T. Handling on the other hand, not in same galaxy. Never make 85 come close. I had an 85 1150es and it was the baddest thing around in its time. Never beat on the street while in my possesion. Great Drag bike if that is your goal..

I agree with Drew. It would'nt be cost effective but it definately can be done (and not as costly as some might think) It all started with the 1100E motor. Then the Katana/
GSXR 1100 motor. Now the Busa. They evolved. LOTS of parts out there. My stock 88 Katana 1100 would do mid 10's  at over 600lbs.  It would be cheaper to start with a Busa that is already faster to begin with, but if for some reason you just want to do it-- you can. (if you're talking about drag racing)

If you like Suzuki's in General this is a fun site in the UK. They have some pretty serious hardware period. But the engine packages for the GS1100/1150 are pretty interesting to compare to the modern bikes. They do Busa's too!

Well, let's see. Probably the easiest mod is to pull one of the plug wires on a Busa.

Got a buddy who's in the PMRA and runs an old school Katana! Trust me when I say you wouldn't want to run your Busa against this bike at the track..........

Money is the only thing needed to make "Any" bike fast! Not the platform....
