What paint is safe to use on helmets

I need to touch up my helmet and I read (in the owners manual I think) don't paint your helmet. Now I know many people have custom paint jobs.
Need to touch up some of the black, can I use nail enamel?
It goes on pretty nice for the ladies. If not what else.

They prolly say not to paint it cause it is just gunna get chipped,hacked and scratched.....

Touchy subject. If whatever you use has a chemical reaction with the shell, it can cause major failure in an accident. Even touching up a small area can weaken that spot which will affect the structural integrity of the entire helmet.

I think custom paint jobs are usually over the original paint or clear coat...still not something I would put on my head.
