i picked up an issue of cycle world cased the new 5k was on front and i looke to the timeslips to see the numbers. whew it only ran a 10.05. So i pickup up an issue of MW and the thing runs a 9.7 but it has an * by it so i go to the bottom and it says corrected 1/4 mile time...what does that mean?

corrected for things like elevation and the whole atmosheric condition thing.

However, the accuracy of such "corrected" times is in doubt, depending on the accuracy of formulae used to come to the value (I don;t know if there's ever been a standard way of doing it), not to mention the accuracy of initial data.

They should test eveybike in the same spot and do away with this corrected shid. Makes it hard for a squid to get teh fastest production bike ever made

barometric pressure is contstantly changing.... one hour say 1200ft corrected altitude you make passes on a bike, next hour riding diff bike and the corrected altitude is 2000ft... get it?

You see a lot of people compairing 1/4 mile times between the new litre bikes and the 12R/Busa. First off the magazine's tests are the finer art of bench racing, but since that is what they are trying to do....bench race.....the only way to get acurate numbers would be to have a Busa/12R there the same day running the same 1/4 mile with the same riders at the same time with the same conditions.
