Ok so it's a beautiful day and I have no choice but to ride in to work.   Once I'm up on the highway I jump into the commuter lane and do a quick speed burst.  Once up to 90 off the gas and back down to about 75(normal traffic speed here in Atlanta is 75-80)  I check my mirrors and see a bike that kinda looks like it might be a cop a ways behind me.  I slow to around 70(65mph zone)  sure enought it's a motorcycle cop.  He comes up behind me at a higher speed then I'm going so I move over and wave him by.  He hung in behind me for a minute or two and then pulls up along side of me.  I look over at him and he's talking to me.  About that time he motions for me to raise my visor, so I do.  That is when he cracks a big smile and tells me to keep it at a comfortable speed.

.  Anybody else ever have anything like this happen to them?  I'm not quite sure what to make of it.  Did he see my little speed run and then slow down once I saw him or was he just giving me a hard time?  Either way it was pretty cool.

Dunno about GA, but in MD they have to trail for several seconds before being able to ticket you with a specified speed... Perhaps he couldn't get a lock fast enough and decided to make lite of the situation and cut you some slack... I will prolly hear a little flak for this, but officers are usually pretty cool... They are like you and me...

I have buddies who refuse to wave to motor patrol, but I always do. And, I always get a friendly wave back. They have a job to do, and most of them do it... Sheesh, did I even answer your question?? Did you have one? Have you hugged a motor cop today?

If you are blowing through town, local hangouts at 90MPH on a Friday night, the LEOs will be your worst nightmare.

If your out on a country road/ Interstate whatever you have, away from people in a somewhat controlled environment they will usually be pretty cool. I have had a lot of PLF (POSITIVE LEO FEEDBACK) [Yeah I just made that up] since I got the Busa. One Bike Officer, flashed his RED N BLUES at me, I slowed, he passed, as he went past he gave me the low hand "Keep it down" wave and went about his day.

Easiest way NOT to get a ticket? Make sure there are NO witnesses. If there is no one around but a LEO to witness you breaking the law they might just let you be because you are not forcing them to act. They cannot sit idle when there is a crowd...Their bosses get calls from nervous old ladies... You might also try to watch your speeding on Friday and Saturday evenings, and the last week of the month. LEO's tend to get hungrier during these times...Seems like they do anyway...any thoughts FormerBear?

Thought I'd share my latest LEO encounter also,

3 weeks after getting my '03 BlacknGrey, I'm riding south on US101 through San Rafael heading to Sausalito for dinner. I'm riding in the #2 lane of 4 (read L-R) doing about 70 and a SRPD car pulls onto the freeway just behind me. Traffic is running over 70 so I slow to 65 even though we're in a 55 zone. He slides left over in front of me to the fast lane. Then he starts slowing down. Now I'm no fool. No way I'm passing him! So he changes lanes over to the slow lane (now #3 of 3). Traffic starts passing him so I have no choice but to do the same. I come up along side him and he rolls his window down and waves me off on the next exit.
Now, I'm wondering, why is he singling me out when there was traffic in the fast lane going faster than I was?
I pull over on the off ramp shoulder, turn the bike off and wait while he exits his car and walks up to me.
He proceeds to tell me "Don't worry, there's no problem, I'm just looking for riders to get together with to go riding." Turns out he rides an '01 'busa and is recruiting for a group of 'busa riders, some LEOs, some not. What better than to be riding with a group of LEOs on 'busas, eh? Exchanged #'s but haven't had a chance to ride with them, but looking forward to it...

Last week the wife and I did "The Loop": Ventura to Santa Paula to Ojai back to Ventura via HWY 150. It's a great little hour and a half ride...perfect for a summer's evening. Anyway, we come shooting out of Ojai, where the twisties turn into the freeway, and I rolled it on in fourth, getting up to around 120, and was just cruising on the empty freeway. In my mirrors I see a vehicle coming up fast, and I'm thinking, "Who's going THAT fast"? I looked over to the side as he came up, and sure enough, it was the Ventura County Sherriff. Their motto: Come for vacation, leave on probation. He pulls up alongside of us, as if to say, "You're kidding, right", and I made a very visible motion of letting go of the throttle, and he just drove on by. I honestly believe that he was a rider, and had we not been properly geared up, he probably would have pulled us over.

1983 ABOUT,BOUGHT NEW CBX WITH MONOQUE FAIRING AND BAGS,GOING FROM LOUISIANA HOME TO SAN ANTONIO ON TWO LANE,SPEEDOS WERE LIMITED TO 85 MPH FOR A FEW YEARS AND THIS BIKE HAD ONE
DOING SPEEDO IN ROLLING HILLS MET A TROOPER AT THE TOP OF HILL GOING OPPOSITE WAY ,SO I DROP TWO GEARS AND HAMMER IT,NEXT HILL MEET 2ND TROOPER AND DECIDE TO STOP,WHEN I GET STOPPED MEET A 3RD TROOPER AND THE OTHER TWO CARS ARE COMING BACK IN MY MIRROR.
IN ALL THERE 10 TROOPERS IN THE THREE CARS, IM WEARING FULL LEATHERS AND GETTING OFF BIKE SWEATING

I wish I had that luck!
Can't complain about cops... When I had the Duc' I was stopped once and the guy just wanted to look close at the bike. Asked me some stuff about the bike, told me he had a Suzuki Bandit, and let me go after checking my papers... (There was one paper missing but he didn't ask!)

About three hours ago I was coming back into downtown Savannah on I-16.  Full gear and all, probably doing about 75+ (55 zone) or so.  I'm in the left lane, passing mucho "tourons" in the right.

Just as I come about to the end of the freeway, I check the rearview and there's a Crown Vic with a light bar (not on) coming up behind me about 300yds back.  $hit!

I ease it off and figure I'm toast.  Put up my left hand like I'm going into the pits (duh... like he would know that) and pull into the slow lane.  There's nowhere to pull over at that point, so I give him a "going forward" wave with that mindless left hand .... still no lights though.

As he goes by he rolls down his window and motions "slow down" ... and goes on by.

Man, I was just floored.  I really though that this was going to be when I had to make up for all those "other times".

OK I got two more stories.
The first one goes like this.
Going home from work on night I caught up to a cycle cop at a higher rate of speed then I should have.  He had already pulled off his exit so there was no turning back for him but he did make it perfectly clear that he saw my and knew that I was going way to fast.  He practically turned all the way around on his bike and glared at me, he had to turn around so he didn't run off the road and once he knew it was safe he turned back around and glared at me some more.  I think I was very lucky he was half way down the ramp.

The best story I've got is New Year's Eve day I was taking the Busa over to show it off to the parents.  I rounded the corner dropped into a full tuck and nailed the throttle.  As soon as I hit 75 I got off the gas and looked in my mirror and that is when I saw all the pretty flashing lights.  I pulled over knowing that I was in deep.  75 in a 55 I came to a stop and looked in my mirror once again but no cop.  I look to my left and there he is rolling down his passenger window (now is when I thinking oh thank God I'm getting out of this one
biggrin.gif
).  I pull off my helmet and that is when he starts talking (still in his car)
Cop: I pulled you over because you got up to 75mph.
Me: I did?
Cop: Yes you did and You looked like you were playing.
Me: Yes sur I was but I didn't realize I was playing quite THAT hard.
biggrin.gif
f
Cop:  I am trying REALLY HARD not to give out any tickets tonight.  I realize that it a bike is easy to get up to speed but just slow it down a bit.  You have yourself a good evening and keep it safe.
Me: Yes sur I will take it easy and you have a Happy New Year.  Thank you.
This is the one and only time I got pulled over where the cop never got out of his car, never asked to see my license, insurance card or anything.  I don't even think he ran my plate.

Well heres my story & I'm sticking to it. Yesterday <7/3/03>
I'm heading into work on I275 at 0710hrs. Was rolling at 90 mph. As I pass the on ramp from Fowler I notice a grey Crown Vic. I think to myself...That could be a cop. I watch it in my rear view... no lights come on. I come up on some slow traffic. Turn signal goes on, roll right 2 lanes. Once passed said clump o'cages, turn signal goes on, roll left 2 lanes. Check mirrors... no lights... must not be a cop. Roll throttle up to 100mph. More cages, check mirror... flashing lights. Traffic in front so do the *right* thing. Signal that I see the guy & pull off the road. Guy stops in front of me. Gets out of car and starts speaking. Can't hear him 'cause of my earplugs. This piss him off. Finally get him to let me remove helmet etc. As I'm handing him my license & reg. he says I guess you know why I pulled you over. I replied speeding. He says not just speeding, but reckless driving & aggressive driving. I have no problem writing you for 86 in a 55. I can have you arrested & your bike towed. 3 hours of paperwork and $250 and you can be on your way to the impound lot $75 later you can get your bike back, although it won't look so pretty. The cop was a supervisor in plain clothes. Tells me that any of his officers would have loved to have been the ones to have pulled me over. Very quietly gives me a polite saftey lechure. Tells me to slow it down because he doesn't want to have to call my wife to ID my remains. Told me he was letting me go with a warning because I had my MC endorsement, was properly geared up, appeared to be riding within my limits, Used my signals, & didn't run. Also that he is on I275 alot had seen me before & that next time I'd get that ride.

Turned out to be ok guy, Sure had me worried tho.
We pulled out into traffic & I followed him @70mph <in a 55>
until he exited the interstate into Downtown Tampa.
