its pretty easy to weld , not like most cast pieces

Yeah with a stick welder E7018 works real good,or for tig use 309L stainless filler wire. Personally,I would pre-heat it before welding and when your done let it cool down very slowly.
Yes. I would think the hotplate would allow the part to coll rather quickly as opposed to having the part in an oven where it would be brought back down to room room temp much more slowly. I'll give the hot plate a try in the future. Havent been welding as much as Id like to lately
