Valve clearance check

After hearing about ks-waterbug's motor going south I figured I should look into my valve clearances. Before I jump into this I have a couple of questions.

1. I had my Webb cams installed at 8000(and change) miles and currently have 18000 miles on the bike. Seeing as though the mechanic would have had to adjust the clearance after the installation when would you check this now or wait until 23,000 miles?

2. I would like to do this myself, but since I have aftermarket cams and no degree kit will I be able to remove the cams if need be and install them in the same exact spot?

I guess it depends on how much you trust the mechanic who adjusted your cams...

I'd say check them now. It has nothing to do with the mechanic that installed your cams. But, if the webcams wear at a different rate than the stock Suzuki then you may be out of tolerance.
