Target Bike is a 2004 Hayabusa w/ Velocity Stage 2 Turbo.

Lowered compression, Water Injection and degreed cams.
Stock wheelbase (likely to change in the near future).

6lb spring in the wastegate
8lbs currently on the 2nd stage (wanting to set it at 10 - 12lbs)

Currently running 16 / 40 Gearing ( I enjoy wheelies ;) )

I have an interest in both running through the occassional 1/4 as well as 9/10 and top-end runs.

Thought about an 18 up front... decided it would be too drastic and the bike would be terrible around town.

Thinking more about 17 up front with a few rears to inter-change (38T - 44T).

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Is anyone running an 18T on a 250hp Busa?

Is 18T too big given the HP?

Is 17T a good fit for what I described above?

Thanks,
Cecil

I don't have a turbo but from what I have heard a 17 is about right. Some people run a 18 but they have more HP. You should still have the stock 17 so put it on and see what you think about it.

Selecting the proper gears depends on what you want to accomplish? If you want to go fast form 0 - 150, gear it down. Talk to some of the drag racers? If you want top end speed, gear it taller. There are a number of Turbo guys on here? You can't have both! If you want to do wheelies, you are riding a very fine line with the turbo between lots of power to get it up and to much throttle once you are up there. When you get that horse up on a tall wheelie and the turbo kicks in, keeping it from looping could be more luck than skill. If you can shut the boost off altogether, that's the ticket for doing wheelies. Doing tall wheelies with boost is somewhat like wiping your bum with a broken bottle? No matter how gentle you are, it's still quite dangerous!

How long have you had your turbo and what do you think thus far? I have often thought about a turbo but then, I can't ride the stock one I have to it's maximum potential so I don't know what I'd do with more HP?

Wheelies are all about throttle control and boost will only make it more difficult to control the throttle. I would prefer a big block kit for doing wheelies.

Do yourself a favor and hit Ninja Eater up, man. He'll have all the info you need on a turbo busa set-up. He's got it down to a science.

I agree with BT, just ask the professor. Also, you can ask the Stunnahman. If I remember correctly, he runs a 16/42 setup.

Am I correct Stunnah? I think he's experimented with a couple different setups but I do remember him saying that the 42T rear was primo.
