Trike Fatality at Deal's Gap

There was a fatal crash today on Hellbender.
The only details I have is it was a couple on a trike and they had left the Crot and did not make the curve on Hellbender at the trash dumpsters. The man was the fatal and the wife was injured. I have not other details.

A heads up to all coming here. There are trikes all over the place, and the Spyder club is meeting, the Smart car club is coming today, and there is a large number of goldwing and harleys here.
Be careful it is amateur hour at times.

I feel bad for the couple, very sad indeed.

But this is exactly the reason I will not ride the Dragon anymore.. too dangerous with all the squids, trucks and other unskilled operators. There are just too many other great roads in this country to risk it.

I was wondering.....what exactly is the safety record like at the Gap? I have read and heard about this great route over so many years and it seems so popular but it seems to be a magnet for major crashes and fatalities. Having also seen scores of pics of riders dragging knee on these roads (and into the ditches in many cases) I am not the least bit surprised that this stuff happens but if the stats get to be too much I could see some kind of changes to the route in order to discourage this type of riding which would be a shame for those who enjoy it safely.
