Temprature Gauge Erratic

Once again a small issue.The temp gauge doesnt seem to sweep like the rest when the key is turned on.The Bike doesnt overheat,fan works when it suppose to.The gauge is "Glitchy" and you can sometime flick it and it will move from cold to mid way ,other times it will be in the red and you can flick it and it will go to midway.My question is first,anyone had this problem ,and second is just the gauge replacable?I really dont want a whole cluster .Especially one with more miles than mine(11k on a 01).Thanks for the input.

Temp sending unit and/or temp sensor might be faulty.

Thanks for the reply.I'll check for sure.1 wire sender correct?If so I'll ground it with key on and it should go to hot "smoothly".Unless it has a coolant temp sensor for the ecu which also works the temp guage(like most newer cars).

Does the bike have HIDS?
