Can be done as posted above with the wiring diagram, the other option is to find a Gen 2 motor,ECU, and wiring harness and go from there. Get the GI with a little extra uummmppphhh to boot to

Definitely it can operate. But as far as the Gear Indicator, that most likely does not work and cannot be made to work unless you had a Gen2 ECU and motor...

All you need is both wiring diagrams and go pin for pin to see which pin does what. IT is time consuming but those gauges are nice looking.

Having done the work to fit a GSXR1K gauge cluster and separate gear indicator to my Gen I, I can say with certainty that there is no way to get the gear indicator on a Gen II cluster to work on Gen I regardless of how you 'connect' it, nothing in the Gen I wiring harness is carrying that signal.

I'm still very happy with my GSXR1K cluster, it's much easier to read than the busa one. It's just a pitty that the fuel light doesn't work. I'm using an aftermarket digital fuel gauge on mine, but unfortunately the resistance ranges generated by the busa's sensor don't mach that well so it shows empty at about 1/2 a tank.

Does anyone know if you can purchase an aftermarket shift light kit install it and run the wiring to the gen 2 instrument cluster instead of the provided light to make it work

Not going to do it, but does anyone think it is possible to use a Gipro gear indicator and take the wiring and plug it into the appropriate spot and have it work with the Gen 2 cluster? I wonder if the signal from the gipro is something the gen 2 cluster would recognise? Just thinking aloud.

Seriously if you were to try and fit a Gen II gauge cluster then-
The blinkers, high beam & neutral would definitely work.
The speedo, tach, fuel gauge & temperature gauge would probably work.
The gear display and everything relating to the mode would definitely not work.
Your exactly right i bought a busa that everything is 08 Busa but the motor and ecu is from 07.So the fI and gear indicator keep doing the self check because its showing none of the secondary injectors working and the gen 1 07 motor doesnt have the 4 secondary injectors so the cluster is throwing the FI light and also not showing the gear sensor working on tge cluster.i think they must of cut the harness and put the gen 2 08 plug for the cluster and i wish they would hace just used the gen 1 07 cluster and no fault codes would be showing.
