I think the previous owner may have crossed the threads on one of the bolts holes can this be fixed if so how because there is oil leaking from it small leak but still leaking.

Take the cover off and check out the gasket. Be careful when you put it back on as the magnet has a strong pull to it, so don't get your fingers between the cover and block. You shouldn't have to use any gasket sealer.

if the threads are stripped you can drill it out and use a "HELI-COIL" kit to repair threads

Use a little silicone on the gasket @ the rubber grommet, where the wiring loom exits the cover.

Im gonna go with the gasket,I changed mine to a chrome cover and the gasket wasnt enough to stop it leaking, put silicone on both sides of the gasket...no problems!

you will need a new gasket though after you remove the cover and like mentioned be aware of the magnets in there and dont get your finger pinched

If it is the threads, sometimes you can get away with just chasing them with the proper tap.
